I can get you one in Los Angeles. Do you need it for casting?

Depending on how old your daughter is, and having a Scottish background myself, listen to Billy Connolly. He comes from the poorer parts of Scotland and is a true Scot.

A few years ago, I was at LAX talking to a guy in line with a British-type accent. I asked him if he was Scottish, and he said "No, Irish". I said "Oh, sorry." He said "That's OK, at least you didn't call me British".

He actually goes into a fair amount of detail in his "lessons," of which, there are quite a few - around 10 or more.

Accents and dialect are hard to master. I hope she is doing this in jest.

I can tell if anyone is from any further from CA than NV, AZ, ID or the PNW.

I worked with some Scottish engineers in Africa. They were very difficult to understand.

Aye an' a bit of Mackeral settler rack and ruin
ran it doon by the haim, 'ma place
well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side
and I cried, cried, cried.

The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then Craig Marion,
get out wi' ye Claymore out mi pocket a' ran doon, doon the middin stain
picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.
Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive
ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. Well I snatched fer the blade O my
Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his feet.

Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall
but as dead, dead as 'a can be by his feet; de ya ken?

...and the wind cried Mary.

I LOVE the accent. I spent a week in Aberdeen once on business. When someone would say something to me, my brain would take about 2 seconds to decipher it, then I could answer. They probably all thought that I was a retard. The chicks, man-o-man... A 7 with the accent is at least an 8.5.

Didn't you mention once that you'd done a big report or research or something like that in college on languages? I want to say, you mentioned it in a thread about the Geico Gecko's accents.

I was never interested in languages when I was a youngster. Now I'm fascinated by them and would love to learn a few. It would be really neat to have an ear that could pick up the subtle nuances of dialect like that.

Steve, I traced the dialects from England to the colonies and then west as the country was settled. You can here all kinds of different dialects in the South, but I'd dare say a lot of it has mutated. There are some pure spots left, I'm sure. But life has to be a lot slower with less outside influence. I think I mentioned Kentucky mining country as being more or less such a place.

We can hear the German and Nordic influence too. I didn't take it that far, but I guess the Great Lakes region would be a good place to start. Italians and Irish in New Yawk.
