I never heard of the Playboy Motor Car and I was a kid then. We were all big into cars too. Just googled it and found some interesting pages on it...

COUNTACH!

According to an Italian ex-gf, it's from the Piedmontese language and roughly translates into "Holy Cow!"

Actually the Apollo was built by Henry's dad, Frank.

The Apollo was conceived in California by Milt Brown as a competitor to Aston Martin and Ferrari and was built by Frank Reisner's Carrozzeria Intermeccanica of Turin, Italy. The superb body design was by Franco Scaglione, the most famous independent designer of the time - the Alfa Romeo B.A.T.s, Lamborghini 350 GT and Porsche Abarth Carrera also are his creations. The Apollo 5000GT has a number of unique features. It is the first of the series to be powered by the 300cid Buick V8 engine which also has very rare aluminum cylinder heads. The transmission is a Borg Warner T10 4-speed. The dashboard layout and steering column are unique in the Apollo series and it also carries an aluminum Monza style external fuel filler and Dayton wire wheels.

Mine is a 5000GT

Oh, yep - you're right. I've had never met Frank, but have the pleasure of running into Henry a couple of times a year. Guess, year-wise, it would have been his dad that built the Apollo!

Didn't know you had an Apollo! VERY cool! Whenever I see one come up for sale (admittedly, rather rarely), I scramble around and try to figure out how to buy the dang thing - LOL!

Someday.

coolest car name: Goggomobile

As a side note, I think it's great that PPOT is such an accepting, tolerant group. We have gun-totin' right wingers, openly gay members, and even members who openly admit to reading Reader's Digest.
