The cheapest Fed Ex rate to send a letter to Missoula, Montana from here in Ohio (3 day delivery) is $26.45. The USPS rate is 44 cents.

Why does it have to be sent via USPO or FEDEX? Can't a letter that is so time sensitive be faxed or scanned and e-mailed?

44 cents with the USPO doesn't guarantee 3 day service.

Really, if the mail only came 3 days a week, we would all adjust and use FedEx and the like for when it really has to be sent in a rush....or the USPO would continue expedited service and charge the same or less.

I don't know. You asked why wolf doesn't use UPS or FED EX instead of the USPO. The reason in the price.

A huge volume of my mail is now emailed. It is another option that most businesses use a lot. But the USPS and other delivery services are is still required from time to time.

Yeah, the USPS rate is $4.95 if you have to have it there in 3 days, 44 cents if you aren't in a hurry. FED EX is $26.45 if you have to have it there in 3 days, and $26.45 if you aren't in a hurry.

It would be fine with me if they dropped Saturday delivery. Three days a week isn't enough.

Right...that's in a ddition to 3 day USPS service. I can't imagine running a business and not have an account with FEDEX or UPS in addition to using the USPS. I've done it. If I can't get it to the destination with the USPS in the right timeframe, it gets expedited with a commercial carrier.

There is a lot of service offered, not being utilized by the majority (by the minority) and it's costing the majority $. Businesses and citizens would adjust. It's not like in 1975 where we don't have options....
