Cops vs Cameras

This seems to be an escalating issue: cops taking action against citizens for recording them. I imagine one of these cases will make it to the Supremes, which will be interesting.

Here's a page I came across tonight with a list of recent incidents of various actions against people for videotaping/photographing cops & public figures Carlos Miller - Photography is Not a Crime | Pixiq

Lets see, the Gov puts cameras all over to take our pix, cops have them in their cars, we go into a 7/11, camera, unConstitutional Red Light camera...

Pictures can show that cops are careless and irresponsible sometimes...

It's not video, it's audio where they get you. 2 party consent states = screwed, cops can arrest you legally for recording the conversation.

1 party consent states = sane laws.

we need a level playing field
public civil servants need to be all three civil, of service, and in public at all times

if it is illegal to lie to cops
IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL FOR COPS TO LIE TO A CITIZEN [it is not]

search warrants need to be far more specific no grand catch alls like drugs or contrabann
they need to say what kind of drug and how much they think there is

I don't think this applies in a public area, only to private conversations. Otherwise news cameras would not be able to record anywhere without first obtaining the consent of everyone who says anything in range of the microphone.

Maybe other states have different laws then CA though that make even public conversations require 2 party consent? How do news crews record anything if this is the case?

Been reading this site for about an hour now. Geeze, this is messed up stuff. Maybe I should show it to my GF and she'll understand why I avoid cops. At all costs.

Anyone seen this? I don't recall it being posted here.

If you ask me, that's clearly a pull, aim, shoot with intent. F'ed up.

Saw a show last night called "Caught on Camera." There were several video clips of cops choosing to mete out punishment on their own. In two South Carolina videos cops dragged the passenger out of the car, beat the crap out of him, and left him without arresting him. The guys hadn't done anything illegal. The cops knew their own car video camera was running and the beat the hell out of innocent people right in front of the camera. They seem to think they have a right to do that. Two other videos showed SC cops running suspects down with their cars. One cop got a 3 day suspension for running into a guy. Another one was reprimanded for driving through the back yards in a housing development chasing a guy. You could see kids running jumping out of the way of the cop car.
If cops wonder why innocent people run away from them they should take a look at their profession's behavior. If you are going to get beaten-up, abused, or run over if you stop, you may as well run and try to avoid it.

local article about 60+ open cop shooting cases inc 26 fatal
they investigate FOREVER UP TO 5 YEARS
and still no results just delays, stall and then drop the cases
after a long time delay and the public forgets

but shoot a cop and they move very very quickly
I can not think of one case that a cop was shot
and that perp was not instantly jailed and charged

but with the cops doing the shooting
no arrest ever no charges ever but long long investigations
and 5 years later they just drop the case every time
BUT OF COURSE WHILE THEY ARE INVESTIGATING A COP'S NO INFO
IS EVER RELEASED AT ALL

UNLIKE A CITIZEN SHOOTING A COP ALL THE DETAILS ARE OUT IN THE PRESS FROM DAY 1

There are unlimited amount of stories out there about police brutality. And along with them comes cover-ups or no justice for the wronged. The Drug War is an instigator for much of it - the police can ram down your door in the middle of the night and shoot your dog, maybe even you, and get away with it - just because somebody reports they smell weed coming from your house.

It's a complete disgrace.

Wish you had not posted that link.

Made for an unproductive day for me.

Can't stop watching videos.

Fascinating and frightening.

many states allow photographing cops - Oregon does

the question is whether a state can prohibit it w/o impugning the state or US Const.s in those state that do
