Harry Potter 7 Pt 2?

I took the kids to the midnight show last night. They got dressed up, son was in his Quidditch outfit, daughter in her prep-school Hogwarts getup. We've been going to the HP movies since 2001 and reading the books since - 1997? Used to throw Hogwartd costume parties in the Bay Area. My kids are part of the generation that has grown up with the Harry Potter stories, so this is a big deal for them. We had a good time. It's been a while since I've seen a packed movie house, eight theaters all full, almost everyone in costume and excited. The movie was good, and looking back on it, it seems so improbable that the same kids have grown up playing these roles from childhood to adulthood. That adds an unusual dimension to the series. Got home at 3 AM, had to get up at 4:30 AM for work - o yea.

Other reactions? Thoughts?

Wife and I went to see if this afternoon. My wife thinks I hated it and I'm really trying not to hate it. It was a good movie and I really try in general not to be critical of movies but this one...well...the last book was my favorite and frankly I just didn't understand the purpose of the deviations.

$40+ million box office nationwide for the midnight shows alone.

Haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies. Evidently I may be the only one

+1

I think the scenes that Rowling setup were fantastic, and was disappointed when they changed the final battle, to add in extra action.

I still liked it, and was fairly happy with it. I understand cuts and some changes for speed (fitting even half a book in 2 hours is tough). I just don't understand the deviations.

Maybe it would have been better as a serial, where they could have filmed 10 hours per book.

I've seen all but the last two, but not at the theaters. I've liked them all so far. They're fun.
