This:

Before buying pairs or individual tires for all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles, drivers should read their vehicle's owners manual or contact the dealer's service department for confirmation of their specific vehicle's requirement.

Not this:

Regardless of the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, the least stressful application is when all four tires are the same tire brand, tread design and equivalent tread depth.

I always do what the sales people tell me

AWD use same size and brand

FWD Does not matter because you do not use fwd on non slippery surface, should still follow same size and brand though.

I got the same speech from Americas tire four the X5, called a BMW dealer advice, they said same brand and size, not to worry about tread depth.
