Today the manager of the band calls me , out of the blue.
Because he wants to arrange the date for the band.
we've been very busy and it's been crazy but we want to sort it out now

I'm like, wtf, wasn't i clear last time when i said i was pulling the plug because i was fed up with your way of dealing with this?

He goes, but the band wants it, i want it, EMI wants it and you probably too.. after all you payed good money

me : sure i payed god money, and i ended up frustrated, pissed off and angry because you never replied to me, stone walled me for 3 months till i was so pissed off i decided to eat my sizable loss and pull the plug. tell me, who didn't you reply to me when i mailed?

he goes, yeah, we were very busy and all that, i understand your frustration


This pissed me off again, he refused to answer and fobs me off with "i understand your frustration" , no he doesn't. Not even close. He's doing the customer service routine , i know it to well to be fooled.

I tell him that, and i tell him i meant it last time, they are not coming, i don't want em in my house because now, i associate them with stress.. When i hear em on the radio, i switch the channel and i'm not kidding.

Told him the matter was closed last time, and i don't even appreciate him dragging it out again.

Frankly if the band wanted to clear things up, they should have called themselves instead of letting their ******* manager bother me again.

Apparently you don't deal with musicians much... most (not all) are world famous flakes.

Not that it makes it right.

Consider that they are so used to getting screwed sometime they get numb.

If just have a enough stress at my paying job, that I refuse to subject myself to this kind of crap when I'm not getting payed for it, let alone when I am paying myself..

In this case it meant eating one weeks pay, but I see it as paying to loose the stress they gve me.
Lesson learned: don't deal with musicians or their managment and/or record companies anymore.
I blame myself for having initiated the deal with high expectations: a gig and a fun evening with the "artists"..what I should have done was donate half the cash to the red cross, pay 10 euro to see the band in a show, and finished the evening with grade a blow and a decent escort.

I'd probably write the charity, tell them that they never followed through, so they don't collect on the free publicity in the future.

If I was the charity, I'd want to know and not have flakes committing to performances that they won't keep.

Maybe you can have them match your donation to the charity as compensation for screwing you on the gig.

Better for the charity and you may still be able to save some positive feeling about the whole ordeal.

I was involved in something along the same lines about 3 years ago. I brought a friend to an auction for an organization that i am involved with, I wanted this friend to join our board.

One of the items in the auction was a speaking part in a movie that was being filmed/produced/whatever by someone related to the organization. My friend wrote a check for 11.5K for the part for his new younger wife. She was thrilled, he was thrilled, I was thrilled.

6 months later, nothing. No phone calls back, etc.

Keep in mind a couple of things. First, it was for charity. Second, you're dealing with people in the arts. I would have talked to the manager, these things happen. BTW, my friend didn't join the board but he did put his big-boy pants and took it like a man. Who cares, the money went for a good cause. However, I haven't asked my hollywood friend to help again.

He was blatantly not answering any of my emails.

I completely understand that it must annoying for you. I guess that what I'm trying to say is that you should keep your focus on the charity aspect of the deal. I know that this was not what you signed up for.

If they are offering to make it ok, then give them the chance to do so and don't let this experience ruin your initial experience of having been generous. I wish there were more people like you in the world.
