The driver was likely only concerned about getting a shady spot and wasn't as concerned about others doing the same. Backing in is more likely to result in assymetrical parking placement - many very nice people don't give a rats ass how well they are placed.

Did anyone here say this was even a serious problem, let alone their biggest one? What thread did you mean to comment on?

Rick, seriously. Shoot the mother.

No, as I said, he's a regular here and has done this plenty of times before and not always in the shaded spaces. In fact, the last time I saw him, it was in the unshaded spaces and he had pulled in forward with the dividing line right under the center of his car.

This Whole Thread and the comments How anyone can get so worked up over nothing...A Parking job !........... OMG !
Hope your life styles never really do suffer a calamity ..I do not think you can handle it if this is all it takes to drive you all over the EDGE !
I hope this clears it up.........
Not sure how I was not clear anyway

Rick Lee 08-12-2011 08:57 AM

Afterburn, it seems you're more worked up than anyone else. Parking my bike, taking that photo and picking up that card off th ground took less than 30 seconds. I didn't touch his car other than to read that card under his wiper blade. I didn't put it there. I didn't hang around, waiting for the guy and I didn't go to the trouble of having those cards printed up. Aand my bike was no closer to his door than another car would have been, had they both parked in their own spaces.

It's actually entertaining to see the haters here exaggerate this into some federal case, when I did nothing more than vent to other car enthusiasts about a d'bag with a beat up, cheap car and rebut a few of the potential excuses others made for him here.

450knotOffice 08-12-2011 09:04 AM

The reason this thread has gone to three pages is that the act of taking two spaces really irritates most of us here. It doesn't matter what car one drives. When a person pulls onto a center line and takes two spaces, he's basically telling everyone that his car deserves two spots because its so special and needs more room. All he or she is doing is drawing attention to the car and risking a key job by some other pissed off parker who doesn't give a rip about the nice car he drives.

There's a grey Cayman that parks in the back of the AA employee lot near where I park my 996 who ALWAYS takes two spaces. It's a little embarrassing to me as a Porsche owner because his act makes us all look like self centered pricks (which is what most people think we are, so we don't need any reinforcing of that idea). I want to leave a note on his windshield one of these days and tell him to get over himself - from the guy who owns the red 996 next to his car.

You seem to be the only angry one here, perhaps you park like this and are feeling defensive?

The world is full of BS. Some BS is major and some is minor, but it's still BS. Bad parking is minor BS, but still BS. It's our job to fight against it. If we don't point it out it'll just get worse.

craigster59 08-12-2011 09:12 AM

With shady parking spaces in Arizona being a scarce commodity, when some dikwad takes up 2, it just perpetuates the "it's all about me" attitude that is rampant in society these days. Not the end of the world, but it's right up there on the frustration scale of the a-holes that cut in at the last minute in slow traffic.

pwd72s 08-12-2011 09:24 AM

One parking job I DO get pissed about...people using handicapped parking spaces who don't have permission to do so...

afterburn 549 08-12-2011 09:47 AM

Me? worked up ? and ANGRY ? WOW--LOL Transparently my words and thought are being used and confused...
Like i said.....".wish a parking job was my biggest problem" and, to have to run to BBS board and post it...to vent it
I feel no notion of anger....or even worked up....my advice was to to go smell the flowers..dont let the bees bother you.
done

slakjaw 08-12-2011 09:49 AM

Lmao. I would bet my next paycheck that when the guy first saw the note on his window his first thought was some chick left him a phone number. Haha. That's just how those guys think. #knowwhatimean?

Work today pay today is slow right now so my next paycheck won't be much

How nice, or how expensive does a car have to be to earn two parking spaces?

Likely the guy is just a d-bag but the car could hold sentimental value for him.

My 1st car was a POS, still, I washed and waxed every dent, scratch and rust spot every weekend.

It was much more than just a car. It represented a milestone, personal achievement, coming of age.

What is the space to the right reserved for? Looks like ghosts with laundry bags parking.

widgeon13 08-12-2011 04:13 PM

Parents w/ children.

Pretty soon we'll have assigned parking spaces.

no, it's ghosts with ghost dogs. Like Scooby Booooooo!

Ghost Dog - great freakin' film...

The family went to dinner tonight and there was a yellow Vette that had backed into two spots. I thought of this thread and all the cool things I should do to his car.

Rick Lee 08-12-2011 05:13 PM

I would definitely park my bike in a hybrid spot, since a bike is far more environmentally friendly than any cage.

Anyway, d'bag looks to have learned his lesson. I went to the gym an hour later today and he was parked there, but in one spot, didn't even creep into the half spot next to him, which wouldn't have blocked anyone and would have given him a little more room. I think he's probably just stupid.

There wasn't another car within 15 spaces I'll bet and it really ticked me off. Not that it has much to do with your situation. Just venting.....

I thought of this post when I went back to my locker today. This is the best photo I could take without looking like I wanted to photograph something else.

In this section of the locker room, when I got there, no other lockers were in use. Mine is the black lock when I came back. Some other guy comes in and used the locker right next to mine, when there are 100 others farther away. Why? Why does he want to be next to some other sweaty guy who's changing when he comes back to open his locker?

bivenator 08-12-2011 05:25 PM

Its the eclipse guy.

Thats was pretty funny that he did park in the farthest part of the space. Did you park in the half space, looks perfect for the bike.

Rick Lee 08-12-2011 05:31 PM

Actually, the locker is not his because he was probably at the gym when I got there and I always use a locker away from other locked ones. And his car was gone when I went back to my bike. I actually got an even more shaded spot today in corner that's not really big enough for a car. I do park in front of those donation bins once in a while, but it makes me nervous that the collection truck will come to empty them while I'm parked there.

He will be right beside you at the urinal also. Even if there are ten unused ones....

That happened to me late at night in the train station in Koblenz, Germany about 20 yrs. ago. I won't elaborate here, but I almost abandoned my luggage and ran.

993.

The last real 911. Although, I admit, the 997's are great, they aren't the same...

Does anybody else, other than me, literally stop and pause, everytime that they see a 993 ???

I need therapy...

Had a similiar experience in a doctors' office last week-rather huge waiting room, it's only me in the whole place. This guy walks in, signs in, and to my amazement sits right down next to me. It was like a Seinfeld episode or something-odd dude!

I use to think about stuff like and actually move. Now, I don't even notice and actually do it myself sometimes. I just want a seat, who the hell cares. There are times I go to the urinal and stand next to someone and let out a big fart as I am paying the water bill. Most older (40 or older) guys have no reaction. The guys? Well, who cares.

billyboy 08-13-2011 04:59 AM

Tiny pebbles under the valve stem cap. Slooow leakage and if they're really dumb, they get the tire re inflated and put the valve stem cap back on for round two.

Scuba Steve 08-13-2011 05:30 AM

Someone parked like that at work once. They came back out to their car to find it booted and surrounded with caution tape. It hasn't been a problem since.

jyl 08-13-2011 05:36 AM

It's just herd instinct. Some have it, some don't.

URY914 08-13-2011 08:55 AM

It's like when you are in an airport and you're taking a wizz and a guy comes in and stands right next to you. There is a whole wall of urinals but he stands next to you.

nynor 08-13-2011 09:14 AM

good times, rick. i love the printed card. people that take two spots are annoying. also, people that think it is ok to park their car while inside the c-store down the street right in the middle of the parking area, making it impossible to drive through the lot to the exit. or, they park right at the door, blocking the entrance. that one usually earns the driver some mockery.

i've experimented with parking my 951 (not that it is anything special: it is beat up, half the interior removed, etc.) at the farthest end of the grocery store parking lot, away from everyone else. invariably, when i come back out, there is at least one car right next to mine, if not both sides, with empty spots all over the place. it cracks me up.
