Some folks modify the Prius to be a backup generator.

We went car camping for a week with a peltier cooler. Left it plugged into the Prius, left the Prius on. Every couple hours, the car started, the gas engine ran for a little while, and shut off. It was quiet while running. Basically served as our generator, except that it runs only occasionally instead of constantly.
