HOLY COW! My Old Car...

Sold my Eagle Talon to a local 17 yr old about three weeks ago. Car was in MINT shape, new brakes this spring. Kid was the envy of all his friends. I remember he asked me how fast it could go. I simply told him "faster than you can drive it". Prophetic words it turns out.

JULY:

TODAY:

I heard the kid is fine. Broken nose and hurt some vertebrae (NO SHYTE!). Very fortunately he had no passenger. There were some trees involved and a rollover. I sure hope he changes his driving style... quick!

I had to share. My poor baby. Had it for fourteen years.

Sad about your car. It really was looking good. Glad to hear that the kid is OK , maybe this will get his attention.

Wow..that truly sucks...that is definitely the best looking of all the Talon \ 4G cars and amazing color too. Typical idiot driver that does not realize his limits are much much lower than the car...moron!

I believe the Turbo Talon \ Eclipse will be destined for collector car status in time to come..now there is sadly one less.

I sold a 1981 Camaro that I had built. This was a pretty quick car for its time. I sold it to a buddy, and then he traded it in on a truck. A year or so goes by, and I am in a junkyard picking up some parts, and I see it sitting there. Steering column had impaled the drivers seat, and blood was everywhere, hair stuck in the broken windshield. I never found out the details, but I would guess that the driver did not make it.

Kids and fast cars.........

generally don't mix too well. Years ago I had a 1973 Mercury Capri (looked like an early Mustang) with a very hot V6 engine that was capable of running over 140 mph! When I got ready to sell it, I decided that it would be irresponsible to sell it to an inexperienced driver. So, when calls started coming in, my first question would be "how old is the driver?". When mom or dad said 16 or 17 I explained that the car was highly modified and needed a driver with experience. Some got mad that I would not sell them the car, some were appreciative. I finally sold it to a young man that was in his mid to late twenties. Apparently he took pretty good care of it, because he called me about 3 years later to get some info on the engine for a rebuild.

Was that a turbo? An old friend of mine had a similar year Laser AWD turbo. That car was so fast it was stupid. I got it up to about 140 once on the interstate and it still had plenty left (spare me the lecturing, I know how stupid it was. I was 19 and invincible).

Sucks about your car though. I once gave my younger brother my old Accord. In exchange, my parents bought my wife and I a new stove. I joked that we got the better end of the deal. 2 days after he got it, he totaled it.

Too bad about the car, which looked stunning. Glad the kid survived the accident but I would be willing to bet that he will be reminded of the wreck in the future with the damage to his vertebrae. He is probably lucky to be alive.

A friend of mine a few years ago sold his Bronco II which he babied for over 20 years (bought new) for pennies on the dollar to his nephew. In less than a month it was rolled over and in a ditch and totaled.

Kids.

Ouch, any alcohol involved?

Driving like that is not just limited to kids, I see scary stuff at my local kart track all the time. Most American's if put in the hot seat of a stick situation are not going to come out of it well at all, and most have very poor judgment of just how much destructive force there is even at street legal speeds, let alone speeding.

Glad he is ok, I was lucky at that age, almost wadded up my dad's twin turbo stealth (my age 17) at triple digit speeds on a long sweeper, that one incident really scared me.
