Cool shots, Bill .. I spent one Christmas vacation camping with friends in the Corramandel (sp?), surfing and poking around in the old mine shafts. Many samples of low-grade alluvial ore from the floor, but one little rock I reached up and picked off the wall actually had a few flakes of the real deal ! Great memories of a beautiful country.

Hi Richard, I've been out in waves maybe a couple of dozen times. Waves up to waist hight it's great. I can pick them up before they even look like waves haha. Stuff bigger than that, well, I took rather a beating, so sore and bruised for days LOL. I went out the other day in a very big swell, just in the swells only, to get my sea legs in the big stuff and it took a bit of getting used to. The swells were bounching off the shore, off cliffs and reefs so there were waves coming from all directions and the board does a bit of pushing and pulling as a wave goes past so it was a bit odd with them coming from all directions. But I will carry on and get some big waves picks. I'd like to get into some big mushy waves, whereas by the time waves get to be big around here they tend to be pretty heavy going.
The bird cage thing is the dogs sleeping crate. He decided he wanted to sleep in the tent instead  |
Hi Geary, well done. You certainly did better than me :) Yeah, Corramandel is the place - hot water beach, cathederal cove...

Over Christmas break a small group of us went down to Puerto Vallarta. Stayed in a little town called San Pancho at a place called Costa Azul. We spent 2 days surfing a place called chacala (sp?)
30 minute drive and 20 minute boat ride. No one out but the 6 of us. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327039874.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327039982.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327040063.jpg |
Excellent contributions guys.....as Tweez would say "This thread rocks!" :p
Richard: I agree John John will have some pressure on the tour but will do fine I'm sure - he has a substantial support gruppe, which should be the difference... Bill: Nice pics! :) Jim: MR has always been one of my heroes. Did you see the movie "Free Ride"? It's one of the best ever made with MR, Shaun, and Rabbit featured...much of the footage you also see in "Bustin" Now here's some classic footage from an iconic classic "Sea of Joy": ;) |
My Linden Balsa Board is back on the market for those who asked..
After wrestling with it I have committed to parting with it. Awesome piece for your office, or Bar.

"Free Ride" by Bill Delaney
Saw it when it hit the circuit the first time and then after the revisions the second time. But unlike other classic surf films this one was never available in VHS (or later in DVD) but one day --- years ago --- I found an eBay auction for (3) VHS copies. The seller claimed he had brought them back from Oz himself and they were complete good quality and the real deal. I immediately bought all three! I wound up giving one copy to a buddy and still have the other two (in a very safe place!) Now it is available in DVD but for the longest time it was unavailable  Why all the conversation? Because this was one of my favourite surf flicks of all time. Along with "The Endless Summer", "Big Wednesday", "Five Summer Stories", "Storm Riders", "Morning of the Earth", "Evolution", "Breaking Down the Door", and "Pacific Vibrations" OK so here's the video - opening sequence with soundtrack by Pablo Crusie "Zero to Sixty in Five" and check out Rabbit's barrel at the 2 min. mark followed by Shaun's....both in my opinion a couple of the best moments in surf movie history. The other highlight in the movie is the surfing of MR...especially the Honolua Bay on Maui segment.....just epic! ;) |

I like that Kassis chick. I'd like to see her come up from a hard wipeout with that minimal bikini on.
