Buttons has passed on .. Interesting how he credits Tony Alva & skateboarding crew for some of his creativity in the surf ..

So anyhow, I'm thinking about Buttons yesterday, and today out of the blue, my wife tells me Buttons has lung cancer. Bummer.

I can vouch, if there was one Hawaiian in the water who was full of love, it was Buttons. He's always been a nice guy .. So if anyone feels like sending a little Aloha Kokua to Buttons, the 3rd link should be clicked. (Never could find that mind-blowing Expression Session footage)

.. came across a photo of my gear in '95 .. one of Dick Brewer's very
earliest tow-in boards 7'6"x17", (straps reversed for my goofy foot partner).
I'd been surfing since age 6, but with this gear I got the best big waves of my life.
Our boards eventually got shorter and much heavier ..

Yes, very sad. He won't be the first who's disappeared completely.

My wife just got back from Oahu, with tales of big waves all around the island. Even the Mokes off Kailua/Lanikai and Rabbit Island off Waimanalo had HUGE surf.

Ha! Just watched this - thanks.

No one narrates like Mr. Bruce Brown.

I have that collection of his movies in VHS format....thought I had seen this segment before.

Classic!

Extra points here for imagination...Mason Ho's seems boundless ( review the clips at The Wedge ) ... right on the edge of nuts (in a very good way) ... the kid goes too - ha !

I caught my fish - close, but the rails on the Larry Mabile are way flatter and not sure I like it.

Haven't had a chance to sort it out as we have had NO waves here for months - it's like summer - but now flat AND cold !

My surf season started this weekend, been waiting a long time since last time out but the wait was worth it

Spent two days boarding the Stubai Glacier near Innsbruck in Austria with a couple of good friends Winter sports on the Stubai Glacier | Austria

Yesterday morning started in snow and cloud which cleared quickly for clear blue skies and 5deg F for perfect couple of a days on the pistes

First time out this season so took it very easy finding my legs on blue and red runs with a bit of gentle off piste.

Apple strudel and Redbull helped to make up for my lack of fitness in a big way

Biggest 'wave' was the Schaufelspitze topped out at 10,500ft

Todays 'surf' conditions
