Hey tweez, I hear that you may be getting into the snow for T day, good on ya!

As to a first board, I think you ought to look at some of the epoxy production board lines. They have gotten shapes from lots of the best shapers. And can reproduce them perfectly. So as you rent, try a variety of shapes and sizes to zero in on what you like.
If you tel the guys at a good surf shop know what you are doing they should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Then once you have ridden that board for a while maybe then you can find a good custom builder to help you refine the next board towards what you are moving towards.

Cheers Richard

Thanks for the advice, Richard! I am still looking. I would love to get a surfboard for myself for Christmas. ;) It will be like when I got my snowboard... staring at it motivates me to get out there! And I didn't get to go to the snow on Thanksgiving. :( But I am trying to book a flight to Denver as I type this so I can finally get my butt in some snow! I am running the Vegas half marathon this coming weekend so I am a busy gal! And then I am planning on running the half marathon in Oahu in April... would love to get on those Waikiki waves again! Will keep you updated on my search for a board!

And nostatic! Awesome pics!

I really can't complain. Wed night we had the crazy winds here, Thu it was still blowing stiff offshore. I bailed out of work at 3:30pm, was in the water at 4pm, stayed in until the sun dropped into the sea around 4:45. Small but the first and last rides of the day were hooters - drop in, work the shoulder, then covered up in a tube just big enough for me and the board.

No pics from Thu, but it looked about like this (shot at Zuma awhile back):

Not familar with the blue striping, but I think that's where a Van's wheelchair ramp is supposed to set down.

Put yer glasses on ya crusty old phart...there's a handicap placard on the rear view. My GF's grandson was wanting to learn to surf. The bike is mine, the board is my brothers....just outside of Blackie's Bar in Newport Beach.

My cane is inside the passenger side door....

pwd72s 12-03-2011 05:46 PM

Okey-dokey...here in Oregon, 2 types of handicapped spots. One has a sign "van accessible". Better not park a car, even with a placard, in one...it can cost ya $400.

apologies for not seeing the tag...and for the hijack. Back to Tweezer's man hunt...;)

Joe Bob 12-03-2011 05:54 PM

In CA they let ya pump yer own gas.....wow.....

Boy houdy, pwd72 Talk about out of the pan and into the fire.
Good luck to ya.

Cheers Richard

manhunt? Who said I was on a manhunt? I am on the hunt for a surfboard! :) Men give me headaches... Surfboards and snowboards bring me happiness.

In Oregon I can buy 92 octane premium with no alcohol...

Wishing Tweezers luck in her hunt. :)

Stop by and I'll give you a board. You don't even have to give it back, but if you don't want to lug it around, it can live here. Not much if a board, but it floats and it's NOT from my surfing days, so it's not made out of wood.

pwd72s 12-04-2011 08:08 AM

Generous of you Milt. I wonder, in this day of short boards, is there any demand for a vintage Hobie Alter board?

porsche4life 12-04-2011 10:50 AM

There is almost always demand for vintage... If its got any sort of cool design, it is valuable as decoration in the very least...

Zeke 12-04-2011 11:34 AM

Hobie? You bet! American Pickers bought some boards last year. They gave one of particular value to the Surf Museum in Huntington Beach

tevake 12-04-2011 11:44 AM

There has been a big upturn in interest in classic old boards and surf memorabilia. I know there is an auction here in Honolulu each year. Some boards reaching $10K.

Surely there are similar ones in So Cal.

Nostatic, nice pics of some sweet moments. How is your Dad doing?

Cheers Richard

tweezers74 12-04-2011 01:51 PM

I am NOT a shortboarder. I am definitely a chill longboarder type. Thanks Zeke for the offer! Interested...

Dueller 12-04-2011 02:11 PM

Went surfing at Coco Bch, Fl Mon/Tues of last week. Hadn't been on a board in 12 yrs. Dayum I forgot how much fun it is. My body reminded me of several seldom used muscles. lol
