wow

Kelly Slater's wave machine.

Every wave is the same, or whatever is dialed into the machine, so it makes it a bit easier to do fantastic tube rides. Still awesome and cute talented girls.

If you have some time......here's a nice film with some smooth soul surfing. Central America - the Pacific really has a lot of power!

Thanks, Geary! The sequence at the 4:30 mark is really cool. Some really nice water footage also. Thought the whole film was really well done including the music. Love the little scenic cameos throughout also!

Note his ability to turn from the center of that 1st board, rather than planting one foot on the tail ..

Yes - very good observation! That board shape really helps.

Speaking of smooth surfers....going back to the 70's here's some nice Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew footage........

Umm, I had a MR twin back in the '70s. I wonder what ever happened to that board. It wanted to anywhere other than a straight line and got really powered up in mushy waves.

Yeah, Bill....I had a Nuuhiwa fish and then a bunch more as they became popular. Super fun boards - especially with the type of surf we generally get around here.

Couple pics from back in the day with a couple of my buddies and our fishes on a trip to the Sunglow pier in Daytona one day......and a pic I took of the man himself during the Native Tan Pro here in '78.....

Enjoyed that.

I see a consistent theme in that the guys are young and skinny.

Funny thing is as a kid I thought I'd quit surfing by the time I got to be an old man at the age of 21 LOL

As it turns out it's probably the most sensible thing I ever did, choosing a life by the sea and out in the surf. At 61 I'm still fit and strong.

That's the beauty of it, Bill.

Thanks, John....really enjoyed that! :)

Bill Douglas 06-14-2020 02:36 PM

Phew, John.

Even when I was younger I couldn't have managed those takeoffs. I wasn't even 1/10th quick enough to be on my feet and turned into the wave.
