				Boos Block score!!!

Our neighborhood association had a neighborhood block sale this weekend. We were going to participate but didn't feel we had enough accumulated "stuff" to put out there...so we didn't. We decided to jump on our bikes and cruise the hood and see what kind of stuff other people were selling. We got about a block away from home and we spot a butcher block at one of the sales. My wife is a big time foodie and this was right up her alley. We stopped and put on our best "American Pickers" face, proceded down the driveway right on past the butcher block to look at all the other stuff first. (mostly crap) On the way back past the butcher block, I stop and ask the guy, "How much for the butcher block?" He looks at us both and says "How about $40.00 bucks?" I knew that was a smokin deal and pounced on it. Its a 24" x 24" x 6". It looked as though it had been stored in his garage for the last 15 years or so. It was dried out and cracked. (not too badly) I took it home and gave it a good sanding. Top, sides, and bevels, then got out the mineral oil. The wood was very thirsty! In less then 24 hours since the first oiling, its already closing back up and looking great. We will be changing out the legs for some taller ones. They are not original anyways. We both love the new addition to our kitchen.

Great score!! However, when you see a nice piece like that you need to grab it first thing. What if someone else had slipped in behind you and snatched it out from under you. I scored a Holley 1150 Dominator carb once where I was about 10 feet in front of another guy who was eyeballing me as I picked it up (sold it on eBay for a lot). He would have grabbed it if I had walked on by. These yard sale people are ruthless sometimes.
