You will not believe the fights that trying to teach my step-son to remove his hat when he inters a house or restaurant has caused. He's on the Varsity baseball team. We went to the banquet and his coach ate dinner with his cap on!

I have the god given talent to make any other hat the subject of derision....like putting a Fez on a mud fence.

The kind of hat to get really depends on what looks good on you... Go to a legitimate hat store (not the hat department of a department store) and often the folks who work there can recommend styles that will work for you. I, for example, cannot pull off a baseball hat to save my life; the shaped of my head, my hairstyle, etc conspire to make me look like a doofus wearing one. I tend toward hats with a fairly full brim, typically in a fedora style, and I like a pinched crown. I also look good in a driving cap style of hat. If I try to pull off a porkpie or one of this short brim hipster styles I look ridiculous... The look just doesn't work on my head/with my face.

Being a Brit & having had a Grandmother that made Queen Victoria look laid-back, #1 about not wearing a hat indoors or at the table etc.
I have had some different reactions over the years from parents of my kids friends. When the kids are eating at my house or a restaurant with us, then the hats come off or no food. Mostly their parents say fair enough, your house, your rules. Only one got pissed. Several have said "Good for you, we have been trying to get that hat off for ages". BTW. Friends who eat with us regularly now know how to use a Knife & Fork "properly". I'ts not a hangover from my Gran 'cos we didn't have Baseball caps, but how on earth does anyone over the age of 12 think they look cool with a cap on back to front or at a jaunty angle? |

You cant go far wrong in a good Fedora. The tie-died t- shirt is a nice touch.
And the lone Buddhist monk in the background...
