You could for example wear your hat in a department store, or museum, or an airport. But never in a restaurant or in someone's home.

I have several old school hats that I wear in cool weather, not hipster hats but hats that gentlemen would have genuinely worn back in the day.
I've been mulling over the idea of laying out the cash for a good Montecristi Panama hat for a while so I would have something nice for warm weather as well, but even the lower grade Montecristis are very spendy.

You know, with my hair (or the lack of), I wear alot of baseball caps. But I have from time to time worn other hats. How do you know what type of hat is your style (hell I'm an engineer) out of all of the styles out there? Can you guys with better fashion taste post some of the hats. I like the driving cap. Educate my geometric self . . . . please!

Strange thing about hats. Some guys look cool in any hat. Others look like complete twats in any hat.

I think it has to do with how comfortable you are in the hat.
Some of it may also be what cloths you wear the hat with.

Proper manners are alway in style..hats are NEVER to be worn at the table or inside someones home; public buildings are also frowned upon. Always removed for the national anthem when outside.
I'm only 43 but I swear, the younger crowd has little to no manners. I guess, being Southern, we view things a little differnt than many. Another no-no is being in public without a shirt on..beaches excepted.

Are Hats Back?
I wear them all the time. Building a collection. I have feeble hair, so it is for protection. I am getting away from ballcaps. I would love to find a camo flatcap.

Well, I guess that's our generations fault for not teaching proper manners.
I like hats but rarely wear them; more in the winter actually.

I'm one of those people who looks like crap in any hat, any style, any type, any time anywhere. My wife agrees. I wear hats for sun protection and rarely for warmth, but that's it. I wish I could look decent in hats.

Never say never. I believe you can wear your hat at an outdoor dinner table
Or any table if you are going thru chemotherapy.

I have a huge collection of ballcaps (being follicly challenged)
And a small collection of larger hats. A few of my straw (Panama style) that have stretched and don't fit well anymore... is there any way to shrink them or should I just give them away?

It seems that hats are coming back, and that the traditional rules of when to remove the hat are being eroded or ignored by the young hipsters who say "the hat is part of my look".
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703748904575411874109848424.html http://www.villagehatshop.com/hat_etiquette.html http://www.esquire.com/blogs/mens-fashion/men-wearing-hats-081711 Well, I don't much care if someone takes his hat off indoors; the only situations about which I feel strongly are the National Anthem (anyone's) and churches (unless it is a synagogue and I see others wearing hats). For reference, here are the traditional hat etiquette rules, per Emily Post http://www.emilypost.com/everyday-manners/common-courtesies/479-hats-off-the-who-what-when-where-of-the-hat My hat, pictured above, is a utilitarian thing, not a fashionable thing, so I might look for a stylish hat. What kind? Fedora, porkpie, bowler, trilby, driving cap, panama, etc? Post pics of yourself in your favorite hat! I'd like to get some inspiration. Last edited by jyl; 09-05-2011 at 09:22 AM.. |
