I am sure the guy who sold you that Brooks is still laughing, take it back to him and let him break it in for you.
I have been riding a rolls saddle forever, it fits me fine but on long rides over 150 miles I get the numbness.

IMO leather will never be comfortable so I ride a synthetic saddle with the cutout. Its the only type that keeps me from crying.

This is a photo of the seat that came with my Trek SU300... I shelved it just after I bought the bike and used a fat gel seat for about 18 months. (6years ago I was a fatty
)Bontrager Hollow Race Lux bicycle seat ~ Cheap and comfortable. ![]() It's back on the bike right now but I plan on getting something like this. The cut out seats seem to be very popular right now. ![]() Everybody is different. Your pelvic bones will determine what's best for you.

I don't get the cutout. My junk won't fit through it so they still get squashed.

V saddles rub me raw. I tried to use one once. I was hamburger raw. from O to I in 12 miles.
Specialized made a killing by telling everyone that they needed a V saddle or that they would get limp dick. I think that they alone have done far greater damage to the biz than anyone else

If I were touring, this thing would be on my bike. I like how it flexes. You can squeeze it with your index finger and your thumb and it will move.

They were a BIG player with Campy BITD, they bought the stuff by the container. I know Ron McVay who owned it.

It ain't sexy, but it works.
![]() Hobson Pro X2 If you are a "fat ass" this is the seat for you. It adjusts the width to allow proper contact of the "seat bones". This prevents numbness in your junk and helps prevent chafing. To further prevent chafing, use Butt'R aka Butt Butter.

It was in Fullerton, Ca. Part of the Mulrooney group of shops. 1979 or 1980 IIRC. I rode with team Paramount. The true bikers knew exactly what the stuff cost, but once in a while we'd get a "you get what you pay for" type of guy who buys bragging rights from buying the most expensive stuff he could find. One just happened to walk in the door that weekend. It was a Medici frame-set, it was definately columbus tubing but was custom painted. $500 for the frame set sounds about right back then, maybe $600. IIRC we were getting better than $500 for a full campy set. Prolly closer to $650 retail but it was a long time ago. Add in the seat, handle bars and stem, chain, wheels, tires, etc. it all adds up. $1600 was actually a very good price for a bike like that in the OC. EDIT: one thing of note, at that time NOTHING could compete with campy. Everything else was junk. Phil woods hubs were good for touring or tandems but that was it. Later on, lots of really good Japanese high end stuff came on the market, some from shimano. Their pro stuff was darn near as good as the italian stuff. As QC got better and the competition got stiffer, that drove prices down for a while instead of up. I got out of that business in 1981 so didn't follow it as closely after that.
