iphone or andriod?

First off I'm not interested in hearing how peoples wet dreams where ruined due to no iphone 5

I have the first driod and am up for upgrade next month, I am with verizon so when I got the driod the iphone was unavailable

I would like to hear your opinions on my next phone choice, preferably from people that have used both andriod and iphone

I am attracted to the new iphone but have also heard the new driod bionic is supposed to be real good

I am not a huge app freak but do use a few

Camaro vs Mustang, Canon vs Nikon, Android vs iPhone...

There's a reason that these are all compared ad nauseum. They are all very good with (normally) pretty evenly matched performance. If you take 10 performance or other characteristics of each and grade them, usually, it will be difficult to chose a winner because each will edge the other out in various ways.

I assume that you're comfortable with the Android. That should probably be a consideration. The new Android phones are much better than older versions. You can get an Android phone with just about any feature that you want. Apple is very slick these days. I think the one thing that they usually have over the competition is hardware. Their hardware usually seems top notch. I suspect the Motorola hardware for Android is good. I really like the HTC hardware for Android. I do like that you can get different Android phones that have different hardware advantages. Want a hardware keyboard, you can get it, want a HUGE screen, that's available too, want 2 cameras built in....

My boss has the Bionic. It does seem to be very good. He's got Verizon and said that he got 11mb in a speedtest on his bionic earlier.

I'd say that this decision has to be a personal one.

Do you want to get a newer better version of something that's familiar so you don't have much to learn?

Do you really like the way the iPhone looks more than other phones?

I like my Windows Phone.

I try to get people at the office to get WP7 or iPhones.

There are particular Android phones that are better than others, but I don't like to give blanket recommendation to get one, because overall, 95% of people here that have odd issues have the Android phones. And sure enough, they'll buy one that acts up.

My wife and I are getting rid of our iPhone 3 and 3GS to get Android phones. The iPhone has been unreliable, finicky, fragile and generally difficult to get and keep a connection.

As far as being familiar with andriod that doesn't bother me too much I often enjoy learning new things and consider myself fairly tech savy

To be honest I have never owned or used first hand any apple product but I hear so many people that swear to them
It seems like almost every person I see is using an iphone even more so now that it is available for verizon

I understand it is a personal preference just looking for some pros and cons

being that I cant upgrade till next month i havent gone to the store yet to put my hands on them and try em out

data coverage. verizon > at&t. tmobile > at&t in alot of parts of the nation.

verizon iphone...yer locked to verizon.

at&t and tmobile iphones, yer gsm, so u can roam the world.

Tell us about your home computer setup? If you enjoy endless options to customize and configure your system then I would suggest Android. If you find all that a hassle then go iPhone. Both are terrific devices.

Well, opinions vary widely on this topic....that been said I currently have both and if tomorrow I were to choose between them, the Android would be the keeper., it might be hard to explain to some but it's just about the degree of customization, the speed, the big screen, the features among so many other things, the not-big brother attitute or Apple's "resistance is futile because you will be assimilated" mindset which is totally opposed to Google's openness ! That's probably why as of today the Android's share of the market is about 44%. My Evo runs circles around my iPhone pretty much in every way and it looks cute too, then again opinions vary so further research won't hurt. LOL

being locked to verizon doesnt bother me as this is my business cell and I have 6 phones on the plan for my employees, besides I have been with verizon for almost 20 yrs and have never complained about their service
I dont travel the world either

my wife and I just share a windows lap top and I have the sony internet tv/blue player that I use to surf while i watch tv

I would postpone any decision for a month.

Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest Android OS is due late Oct early Nov.

It's supposed to address the fragmentation issue that Android suffers from.

The fragmentation issue can run the range from non existent to major depending on which manufacturers phone you purchase.

The anecdotal results from switching off of Blackberries at the office:

No particular order, I'm just thinking through the people that had BBs.

BB -> iPhone4 -> Loves it (and also has an iPad)
BB (w/no kb) -> WP7 -> Loves it (and also has an iPad)
BB -> Android -> Doesn't care much either way
BB -> WP7 -> Loves it
BB -> Android -> Hates it
BB -> iPhone 3GS -> Likes it better, wants a 4
BB -> WP7 - Doesn't care either way
BB -> iPhone -> Android -> Hated them all, Luddite

The only times I tell someone to not bother with a WP7 is if they want a front facing camera, since those aren't available yet, or have particular apps that they can't get. Other than that, it's really worth looking at.

Ok, just anecdotal, but here goes:

People who prefer to tinker with their own computers (linux types et al) prefer the Droid for greater security, greater configurability, and the like. People who like to pull things out of the box and use them prefer the iPhone.

I like tinkering with things, but my phone is sacred. I want it to do what I bought it to do, no questions asked, every time. My Droid-using friends rave about how great it is, and occasionally show me apps they've found that do things that Apple would never allow. But they also complain about incredibly poor battery life, duplicate text messages, etc.

I don't think any phone that's got a huge LCD touchscreen color display has good battery life.

I'm on my second Android. I haven't had any problems with them. I rooted the last and did have some small issues with some of the hacked ROMS that I had installed, but the last ROM was very stable. Heck, my first got dropped in water until it was completely submerged (twice months apart), while powered up, and after it dried out both times it still worked fine for nearly a year (until I upgraded).

I haven't rooted the new one because I don't need any features that it doesn't do out of the box.

Many/Most of the newest Android phones have forward facing phones. Honestly, I have no interest in a ff phone.

I used an iPhone 3G up until a month ago. Then I switched to an HTC Inspire (both on ATT). I switched back to the iPhone as I found some aspects of the Android to be clunky (mostly the phone/contacts implementation, plus I'm on a Mac on laptop/desktop and Android isn't seamless). That said after yesterday's 4S announcement and a $250 bill from ATT for a bunch of crap I pulled the ripcord and now have an HTC Sensation on T-Mobile. So far so good though I'm having trouble mounted the SD card via my Mac. Beyond that I've got things working fine - bluetooth connection with my car is seamless, I have gmail calendar and contacts imported, and all my email works perfectly. Plus I have $50/mo per line family plan with unlimited everything. No more $250/mo bills. Freakin' ATT...

I suspect you may have LOTS of contacts. If you do, you may want to check out 2 apps. StarContact. Some folks will use the search widget to get to people. I've never adopted that. What I like about starcontact is that if you have a bunch of contacts, it allows you to use T9 text prediction to search through your contacts. It's much better than scrolling up and down through a huge list. Starcontact also improves on the call log over the standard, IMO. With Starcontact installed, you can still access your contacts and call logs via the standard app.

Also, if you have a bunch of contacts and you like to group them you may want to check out Contact GroupsU For instance, I might make groups like family, immediate family, coworkers, close friends, etc... And I like to give each their own distinctive ringtone so I know essentially who's calling before I look at my phone. Contact GroupsU allows you to much more easily setup contact groups. It's probably got a lot more functionality, but that's what I use.

I have to say there were 4 iphones in our family and its now down to 1. The others are WP7s - Samsung Focus(2), and an HTC with a slider keyboard. Windows Phone is the best kept secret out there. It just works! and then syncs with my Skydrive.

The Focus is a MUCH tougher phone than the fragile iphones - ymmv.

I (heart) my iPhone. I use it for everything. I even bought my house with it. No joke - did all the calls, disclosures (PDFs), emails, took photos for documentation and got comps/appraisals and built financial modeling spreadsheets on it - as well as all the loan apps and wire transfers.

I've used it for my side gigs while at work, I use it to track all my bills and expenses, my schedule, you name it. I have sectional and terminal area charts on it too for handy reference in flight planning.

Maybe the droids can do all that too but... Man these things are awesome.

I definitely prefer the clean, elegant look of the apple stuff to the androids too. Most (IMHO) have screens that are obnoxiously large and are too clunky looking. The minimal look of the iPhone is lovely.
