Where would you move to ?
I am thinking of relocating to try to keep as much of my retirement annuity as possible in my pocket. I see that many others are curious about different locations. Since Pelican members cover pretty much the entire United States (and the world) Maybe we can create a "One-Stop" thread for relocating.
I have been looking, in order of precedence; 1. Carson City, NV 2. Albuquerque, NM 3. Southeast, KY

I was in Carson City, NV for that exact reason the weekend before last. The SW portion of the city is nice, and has some rural aspects that I liked. We may continue looking at other areas, the wife wants to be on or near a lake. Tennessee, like Nevada has no income tax.

Consider Austin TX. No income taxes. Property taxes are higher, but you can decide those by where you live. If you live outside the city limits and "hobby farm", the taxes are cheap.
It does get a bit warm in the summer... For something closer to what you are used to, consider New Hampshire.

You can live on the cheap in Las Vegas or blow your money. I don't know how income tax affects your annuity, but states with no sales tax are a bargain.

Carson City, NV has a great medical center (Carson Tahoe Regional) and Reno has several great hospitals as well.

I wouldn't move to Vegas, that city is going to hell in a hurry, and as more states allow casinos, it will only get worse.

Being from the midwest, I'm looking at SE Kentucky, which is beautiful, or central/eastern Tennessee, also nice. I'm trying to get my wife to think north of Knoxville, near Crossville. I have to have some big hills, lakes, streams, and all of these are nearby. Plus lots of golf. That part of the country is IMO some of the best areas to retire to just because your so close to almost anything you might want to do.

I spent a week in Albuquerque and was not impressed. Tucson or Phoenix are much nicer.
Have you been to Vegas? Vegas vs craphole Indian casino, that's a real hard decision.......

Have you been to some of the larger indian Casinos? OK has several that rival vegas quality in food and accomodations. Check out the Hard Rock in Tulsa, the Downstream in Quapaw, The Riverwind in Norman, the Winstar in Thackerville.... The list goes on....

I also should have added that I have visited virtually everywhere in the SE US (and most of Canada & all of the majors & many minors in the continental US). The Nashville - Knoxville - Chattanooga triangle gets my vote. The summers are too humid for too long but the winters are mild.

LV has some other amenities...a wide variety of good restaurants at reasonable prices, diverse ethnic markets...lots of entertainment..
If you get away from the tourist areas it is a whole different world. Downside is that it is hot in the summer... Housing is NOW CHEAP...

Yeah, but that's one casino or two. The cool thing about the strip is the pure magnitude of the place. Miles of opulence, shows, shopping, restaurants, etc. I'm not a gambler, so that's the stuff that I think is cool in Vegas. Have you been?

Vegas = Love to visit but I would never live there. I was in Kentucky on a work trip, very nice and the people were very friendly... however the snow/cold winters are a deal breaker for me.
