I've done it.

I had a commute that was about 550 yards. I drove in the winter for several reasons.

1) I would do coffee runs and lunch from work with friends, sucks having everyone walk all the way back to my place.
2) -60F in blowing snow with un-plowed sidewalks that have at least a foot of snow.

To alleviate the problem of not getting the car to operating temp I had a block heater on a timer. 20 min before my drive I would start the car. 10 min before my drive I would turn on the heater to the car. (If you started the car with the heater on it would never ever reach operating temperature idling).

Not the most environmentally friendly thing to do but oh well.

350 yards can be tough in high heels, if she dresses like that. Of course she can change shoes at work to eliminate the problem. If she does wear heels, she walks a lot more than 350 yards during the day.

So, that may not be it. It's gotta be the hair. Yep, the hair, scarves mess it up.

A friend of mine's mother owned this crazy expensive women's clothing boutique and she did this - drove to the end of their block to the store, after speedwalking 5 miles each morning for exercise.

Because of the job (and she was a former fashion model) she dressed to the nines everyday, so the drive wasn't to avoid the walk, but to make sure she arrived in pristine condition. (If you've ever seen a fashion layout and said "Who would wear that crazy stuff?" I can help with that: former fashion models).

Her car had 1200 miles on it after 5 years. She got a kick out of telling the guys at the shop, after sidelong looks at the odometer, "What? I drive it to work everyday!"

The first 5 years at my current job, I walked 6 miles to work and back everyday, rain or shine. Hilarious how many people ust couldn't fathom walking that distance...

My parents are in their 80s and they walk about a mile to the grocery store two to three times a week in all types of weather.
While I wouldn't like to live that close to work. I would love to be able to walk instead of driving in.

Do you pass several individuals that speak ebonics on the way to work? For example, the word omelette. Used in ebonics, "I oughta busta cap in yo ass for walking past my crib sucker, but omelette you slide dis time."

That might be a reason to drive, or you could join their local socialite club.

I used to work with a guy who would drive 1 block to grab lunch up at the corner. I figure there are people in LA who drive to their mailboxes -- and most of us here don't have 1/2 mile driveways like some of you living elsewhere do. No wonder so many Americans are obese.
