Porsche 917/30-004 sold recently

This particular 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder, chassis number 917/30-004, sold for $4,400,000 at the 2012 Gooding and Company Amelia Island sale, held March 9th in Amelia Island, Florida.

Does anyone in the Pelican Porsche World here know who bought it?

PS: It wasn't me. I'd never pay that much for a race car that never raced even if there were only 6 frames ever made.

I've seen this particular car in person... The photos don't do it justice.

It is rumored that Seinfeld bought it.

I was signed up for the Porsche driving experience that day and got to see the Brumos private collection, but I really regret not seeing the Drendel collection at the Gooding auction. I overheard rumors that Seinfeld bought several cars from that collection.
He had a stunning 908/03 in the concours. Honoree, Vic Elford, drove it out on the lawn as his introduction.

As a kid I watched Mark Donohue at the Mosport Can-Am racing his 917/30. My brother took me to the Can-Am specificity to watch Donohue and his "Can-Am killer". It was freaking fast, lapping other cars like they were almost standing still. I still remember everyone in the stands and around the track were in total awe of him and this car.

I'm with you; Penske cars always looked like they've been thrashed hard and put away wet.

I got it out on a 15,000-foot runway and went to 8,000 rpm in high gear. I figure that was over 200 miles an hour, way over. My hands are starting to sweat just thinking of it.”
