R as long as you did a backup you can restore. To back up right click on the iPhone icon in the left hand column in iTunes and select backup. Sync is not the same as backup. After you install ios5 iTunes will ask you if you want to restore or start as a new iPhone use your latest backup which would be the backup you just did. I think your backup has the date and or time.

I just didn't see much on that ipd site that was important to me - Appl may force me to redo the OS eventually tho.

Sometimes it's better to just start fresh. Good luck!

iOS 4.3 had bad battery drain in beta, then the production version was good. I imagine they'll fix this, hopefully soon.

Having the same problem with my iPhone4 - used to be able to go about 2 days without having to recharge (by tweaking some of the parms on the phone) -- now I'm lucky if the phone makes it through the night. Really hope this is a bug they can fix.

I started turning off automatic features already, icloud backups, etc. Battery life is improving.

They say if you turn off Ping it helps a lot and it did on mine. Thats the new messaging thing they added i think?

I think the battery life problem can get solved with a software release. Previous iOS versions have had poor battery life then it was fixed.

It is very likely nothing hardware related. Yes the processor is dual core, but one core can be turned off when not needed.

For now, I have done almost all the tricks mentioned, and my phone still drains too quickly when it is being used. But if I put it to sleep (power button), no problem. It still receives phone calls, texts, does alerts, etc when asleep.

I turned off ping, don't notice anything, still get messages fine

I agree about the battery - mine is draining fast even with shutting off lots of stuff. I leave location, push email and wifi on all the time as I need those features.

I wonder is HSPA+ is draining the battery - my 4S is way faster in all aspects than my 3GS's.

Voice quality and signal strength seem better. So far no dropped calls. Normally I expect to drop about 4-5 per day.

does the new OS allow the device to operate as a telephone?

that would be a nice feature, if it worked

Common mistake. Lots of people bought iPods instead of iPhones by mistake.

Everyone complains about iPhone call quality...I drop 1 call per week tops, and I'm fairly confident it has more to do with AT&T than the phone itself as the drop rate on my blackberry was similar.

gprsh924 10-17-2011 04:36 PM

Also really liking the notifications on iOS 5. big improvement over iOS4....the only part I don't like is that it glitched while I was re-syncing after the update and wiped my phone clean. Other than that, it was been great.

Oh well, the apps only took about 20 minutes to re-download. Now all thats left is re-assembling my contacts.

Without a doubt. When I lived in NY any call longer than 3 minutes got dropped.

Moved to TX and in 4 years have dropped less than 6 calls.

Went back to NY/NJ end of June this year and right back to the same old crappy service.

No complaints about ATT service in TX.

Go into iTunes, Edit/Preferences/Devices and check "Prevent iPhones, iPods, and iPads from..." if it's unchecked. The issue seems to be the devices trying to sync all the time...

jyl 10-18-2011 07:29 AM

Down on AT&T in PDX is about 2 Mbps. Not particularly faster than my 4. But I haven't dropped a call yet.

You know, Apple needs (NEEDS) to incorporate a junk mail filter in iOS Mail. This is a major need.

Having problems with iCloud. My 4S is fine but wife's 4/iOS5 is not syncing Contacts. I've tried deleting and re-adding iCloud. Probably going to sync over USB tonight.
