Whats your control? Food sets out for a year and its disgusting, thats the findings? If this food is your primary diet, your simply a moron. If you think your safe from preservatives by not eating fast food well we'll just let you think thats possible.

Now cook up a fresh hamburg, potato's and home made milk shake and set it out for a year, then I guess we will all swear off ever eating any food.

Thats why I suggested the control. Does off the shelf food have less preservatives? I'm guessing not.

I guess if i was running an experiment i would have a control but this was actually done to duplicate an article that was written by an artist in NYC a few years ago. She did this with a happy meal. I wanted to see if there was a difference in McD's and BK.

The reason why this stuff doesn't mold? The high sodium content more than likely...

Romad,

Having a bad day?

It is an interesting informal experiment. Just like The Economist's "big-mac" index.
While not perfect, it is sufficient to illustrate the general trend....

You also imply that the same result would happen if you were to cook up a "fresh hamburg, potato's and home made milk shake" and set it out. I can tell you from actual experience that is not going to be the case. Unless you are in a winter cold environment. I did such a thing, although not for experimental purposes. Simply uneaten food forgotten after a late night out..... It went bad within 1-2 weeks. That is no where close to a year.

About those preservatives..... You are implying that it is near impossible to avoid them. Again you are off base here. It is possible to do so. However the tradeoff is it will require some additional preparation time to prepare the final meal. Myself, I prefer to balance things. I'm always on the look-out for food with either no preservatives, or time-tested preservatives (eg. salt). It's been interesting but it's doable.

Dude, you need a stiff drink or something. Relax! He's just having some fun and making a point about the disgusting-ness of fast food at the same time. Oh, and you really should read up on the appropriate use of apostrophes, and general grammar.

Hay dudes, Romad is good! His point is well made. As a scientist his point is valid. The intent of the demonstration was not to discover the difference in degradation per se. I think, although I do not want to imply I know his intent. He misunderstood the spirit of my work.

In retrospect it would have cool to do more with other offerings - Wendys, 5 guys, In-n-Out and homemade as well.

Why didn't the bun...ie. bread intended to be consumed within minutes of purchase not mold. If I have a loaf of bread at home for a while it grows mold. Weird.

The documentary, "Supersize Me", did something similar with a control. The film maker put aside a big mac and fries, if I recall. He also put out some regular foods, but I don't remember what they were.

Anyway, all the regular foods started to turn green and generally decompose right away. But the big mac and fries were fine.

Unfortunately, the maid threw out the experiment before it was done. I think this would be an excellent science fair project.

Much better idea than using it as a meal.
