				1938 Piper J3C Sport Cub

Not mine, but thought some others on here might appreciate it. And it is for sale. Appears to be well restored. 1938 Piper J3C Sport Cub - A Must See! - ADVrider

I grew up flying around the midwest in my grandfathers J3 Cub. My uncle still has it. I can still recall flying in the fall, the doors open, cruising over their farm and waving at my dad who was rabbit hunting below.... Aw....geez.....yer makin' me all nostalgic....

Clyde Smith Jr restored that one. My wife and her first husband knew him well. I doubt there is anyone alive with more knowledge about Piper ragwing aircraft than Clyde Smith Jr. IIRC, his father worked for Piper back in the Cub days and Jr worked for them also. My wife's first husband restored one just as nice (nicer IMO) as that one and it won at Sun & Fun in '95 IIRC (my wife's first husband died later that year in a Christan Eagle crash). A few years later the owner of the cub bought a new fresh engine and had me paint/detail/install the new engine exactly as his original engine had been painted/detailed by my wife's first husband. I clear coated after painting with Imron (still had the paint left over from the original job) and even polished the "brass" safety wire then brushed the completed twisted wire with Imron clear. That engine was one of the nicest looking aircraft engines I have ever seen to this day. I got to fly the Cub for a week or two at my place after putting the engine in to get some time on the engine. It was like heaven puttering around with the door open on those warm summer evenings in that absolutely perfect Piper Cub.

I'm not an airplane guy but that looks like something the laymen could hop in and fly. It doesn't even seem that expensive.

I have a friend whose dad completely rebuilt a Cub. He put a warning sticker on the dash stating "Warning- Do not exceed 200 knots". A perfect example of his dry sense of humor. They are really fun to fly.

Not sure everyone realizes just how rare this airplane is. It has the very rare "up exhaust" style engine that is almost impossible to get spare cylinders for these days. These were very early engines and later on changed to having the exhaust and intake on the same side (bottom) of the engine. The seller says he has a spare engine and bits with it and that helps. Very nice looking airplane and good price as well. Kurt, you buy it and I will be glad to teach you how to fly it! I would even ferry it to your place next summer!

These are real "low and slow" fun airplanes to fly. Open the door and fly with it up and you really get a good feeling for everything going on around you. Joe A

One of my favorite flying experiences was flying a Legend Cub during the "Magic Hour" about 50 feet over the corn in August some years ago. Both doors open and giving my nephew the ride of his life. That is a beautiful machine...

Please stop posting these flying threads. That thing is beautiful and the last thing I need to get into. Lack of self control is my issue, but cut me some slack. Please.
