Office Etiquette and the Community Microwave Question?

We have an inconsiderate member of staff, who will always put her food in the office microwave and walk away and completely forget that her food is finished being nuked.

Everyone in my office is so "egg-shelly", careful to be respectful and not touch her food and so leave it the microwave, while they wait, looking at each other on what to do and delay them warming-up their lunch.

Like a bull in the China Shop, I take her lunch out put it aside and warm up my stuff, I don't give up a $h_it, a brother gotta eat! Everyone in the warm-up line looks at me in amazement.

Would make a good skit for the "Office"

What would you do?

Yasin

Set the microwave to "high" and "99 minutes" with her crap still in it. Hit "start", walk away.

In a few minutes, she'll get the hint and I bet it never happens again.

I must work with her husband, the guy that does the same thing with our one-cup-at-a-time coffee brewer.

If it dings and he's nowhere in sight I move his stuff out of the way. His bad, not mine.

I would and do just what you did at the community microwave. Twice this year alone people have nearly set the microwave ablaze while over heating popcorn unattended and forgetting about it altogether.

That doesn't seem like a very controversial move.

I don't understand why anyone would be concerned about being perceived as inconsiderate to people who are inconsiderate.

Probably because they're afraid they'll hear, "DON'T YOU *EVER* TOUCH MY FOOD, YOU NEANDERTHAL... IF YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN, I'LL SUE YOU SO FAST YOU'LL FORGET HOW TO BREATHE!!!!!!"

Taking the person's food out and setting it aside is completely okay. In a work environment where all or most of your coworkers have a college education, no one should have a problem with it.

But the 99 minute mambo IS intriguing.

We have folks that do the same thing here. I will always take their stuff out and set it on top of the microwave without hesitation or a second thought. I've also gone in to the break room and found stuff already sitting on top of the microwave which indicated that I was the second person to microwave food since the other food finished.

I have gotten pulled into something and forgotten my food in once or twice (not recently, but over the years). But as a rule, I don't leave my food alone.

We have signs at the microwaves that says "Do not leave the microwave unattended when food is in it".

Which is probably a good idea.

Now I know why I can't work in a office # 11.

I get reports of people stealing each other's food out of the community fridge. Now that's really bad form. Make that # 12.

We had one lady that would always burn the crap out of her popcorn. It would stink up the entire building. We all voted, no more popcorn allowed in the microwave.

Heh heh... that happened at work ONCE. We couldn't believe the stink.

So I made a sign...

Cooking popcorn
any longer than 2 minutes
in this microwave
is trouble.

BIG trouble.

...and it never happened again.

we do have a clean out the fridge every friday rule.

once they took the popcorn out of the vending machine the burnt popcorn smell at afternoon break went away.

We used to have that problem in one of my offices.

Our new VP of Sales started bringing in cat food sandwiches.
