A child predator many of you needn't worry about

Some years back, the "greens" here put an initiative on the ballot banning the use of dogs when cougar hunting. Now they are overpopulating, and causing problems in the rural areas. Only pets & livestock so far, but the time is coming when one will take a child.

This happened about 25 highway 20 miles from me..

Quite honestly, right now, I'd rather tangle with that kind of cougar than the other kind...

The voice of experience? LOL!

This a classic example of how the one big city of Portland voters can make the lives of rural people miserable.

A child predator many of you needn't worry about - I thought you were talking about Sandusky! (Both need a bullet to the gut a few times...let'm wrangle around in the dust thinking about that for awhile till they bleed bile out...)

Btdt, dumb enough that I'll try it again someday, smart enough to realize that makes me an idiot.

7.62 works really well on the kind of cougar you're talking about. Haven't tried it on my kind....

I believe there have been 5 fatal mountain lion attacks in California in the last 100 years. People need to lighten up about "risk".

Don't live in their habitat w/o taking precautions. Sort of like swimming where the sharks are.

Send some down here. Ours are endangered in the Santa Monica Mountains due mostly to roads cutting through their territory but also poachers occasionally. I live next to mountain lion territory but have yet to see one. Only bobcats. I hope their numbers will recover here. I think they are quite noble animals.

City folks...knowing how to tell rural folks how to live...gotta love it. Thanks for your city folk comments, guys...

I was halfway serious. Oregon cats would diversify the gene pool for the cats here.

They moved wolves back into Yellowstone. Why not move some cats down the coast?

Hey Paul, nobody is telling you how to live.Live wherever you want.Move to Mountain Lion country if you want. Some people have a different opinion, thats all.
When the bulk of us live in Mountain lion country, then maybe attitudes will change.
Until then, well,I fail to see why you would move to Mountain Lion country and complain about Mountain Lions.

About 7 to 10 years ago a woman was killed in the mountains of the eastern part of the County by a mountain lion. I didn't pay attention to exactly where it happened but decided to always pack a pistol when hiking in the general area. We frequently hiked by a bench in one place we went and sat on it for lunch some times. I only recently learned the bronze plaque with a lady's name on it was in memory of the lady killed at that location.

You don't get it...here, it's the mountain lions moving into people territory. An adult male cougar needs a large area to roam in...his own territory, or the older males will kill him. So, they move on. On into the back yards of suburbia in some cases, seen prowling near school playgrounds in others.

Yep, when a big cat begins patrolling your back yard, your attitude just may change. Read the news story above, imagine what might have happened to those children if the cat had still been hidden in the brush, and they got off that bus. Do you think a cougar will distinguish between a 50 lb. child and a small deer?

The city folks of Oregon, by voting for a ban on Cougar & Bear hunting with dogs, were indeed telling rural folks how to live.
