BTW the easiest way to tell if someone's having a stroke? Have them try to SMILE.
If they can't smile, or can't smile evenly, it's time to call 911. Yes it's too simple and not even close to 100% but it's a start.
Quote:

Cincinnati prehospital stroke scale

Crooked smile. Have the person smile or show his or her teeth. If one side doesn’t move as well as the other so it seems to droop, it could be a sign of a stroke.

Arm drift. Have the person close his or her eyes and hold his or her arms straight out in front for about 10 seconds. If one arm does not move, or one arm winds up drifting down more than the other, that could be a sign of a stroke.

Slurred speech. Have the person say, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” or some other simple, familiar saying. If the person slurs the words, gets some words wrong, or is unable to speak, that could be a sign of a stroke.

Whew, that is good news, and quite a relief to hear.
Now our prayers and good wishes need to go out to Mrs. D and Chandra who are going to be taking of our man David over the next few weeks. All the best to you ladies.

Cheers Richard

The National Stroke Association recommends to use FAST for warning signs of a stroke:

FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?

TIME: If you observe any of these signs, Call 9-1-1 immediately.

As a stroke survivor anyone who cannot respond appropriately should be checked out. Remember to tell the emercency personnel that you think it was a stroke. I stroked out at 39 and they did not discover that I stroked until 12 hours later. They thought I was a drug overdose. If you think it was a stroke get it checked.

This is GREAT news! Heal well, and soon David! And Mrs. D, and Chandra, Thanks again for the updates, and if our "patient" gives any sass while he's on the mend, I'm sure a few of the closer Pelicanites will be pleased to stop by, and settle him down. Be sure to take care of yourselves, as well as David.

Just got back from a bite to eat and some Monday Night Football. Had to check The David Thread. I feel very good today, and it's because Dave's okay.
