Looks like the exact same safe I bought from Gander Mountain about 5 years ago, but mine is gray in color. Nice safe!! Always get a larger safe than what you think you'll need, trust me...

Give me 5-10 minutes I can have it opened for you. maybe less with battery operated tools.

It will keep the kids out. If you're gone on vacation and do not have an alarm figure it to be cleared out. Please do BOLT it down! if they can't get it opened in that room they'll move it to your garage or to their pick-up.

I moved recently and moved a 500# safe by myself.

I used 2 other people to move my 2,000 safe.

I store ammo in the bottom of my safe, so unless they get it open, they're not carrying it away. I have mine in the basement, next to a floor drain. It's nice and dry down there, that's where I'm typing this from. In my 'hood, the B&E guys are all crack/meth addicts and they are not safe crackers, they are in and out in less than two minutes and they are looking for fast $, things like tools, cameras, TV sets, guns, etc...

I'm looking for a new spoon safe as well. I'd like it to be 30+ long guns, 1 hour fire rating, water rating, and 1 hour theft rating. I'm thinking $1k - $2k in price.

Unless it's a damn fine safe they WILL get in.

Fire hatchets, prybars, sledges will gain entrance quicker than you think.

That looks like a nice safe, I just couldn't spend that kind of $ on one. Most people around me don't own a safe and they stow their long guns under beds, couches, etc... and they are frequently stolen. Everyone stows their pistols in the same places, so the bad guys grab them quickly.

I think just about "any" safe is better than no safe at all, but once you get into the >$2000 range, they are much, much more secure than what I have.

There isn't a safe made that can not be gotten into...it just a matter of how much time is needed.

I wqould say buy a safe to match the value of its contents...cheap spoons you can get awy with a cheaper safe. My recommendation is to buy the best quality you can afford.

Always buy bigger thqn you need...you will need it at some point.

Bolt to the floor. ..I have heard where they will yank the safe right through the wall...

I would check for used safes and safes at estate type of auctions..there are more of them for sale than one would think.

The hardest safe to crack is one that is hard to find/access. You could build it into a small closet with a false wall in front or some such disguise. Another ploy is to put out a couple cheap guns as decoys. The worst thing to do is to leave it in plain sibnt.

Someone I know put theirs in a low ceilinged basement. You cant swing a hammer or an axe unless you're on your knees. Even then its not a full swing.

I like mine, its a 1930's Diebold safe door with inner and outer doors to get into a safe room. It's not fire rated. I had the locking bars, dial and handle re-nickel plated when I got it about 25 y/o. An old client had a building in Vernon, CA that was to be demolished. My brother and I yanked it out and put it on steel pipes and used a come-along to drag it from room to room. When we got on the street, we winched it up onto the bed of my brother's old GMC pickup. Two Vernon cop cars drove by and never stopped to ask why we were winching a safe onto the back of a pickup truck.

I have our safe in the basement. tucked into a small part that would require a lot of effort to move or manipulate. I recommend putting them on the lowest floor in the house, bolting them to the floor and making sure it's a nice, dry area. Not much sense storing your spoons in a safe if they're rusting away in it, is there?

We also keep our jewelry, paperwork, passports, etc... in the safe. Great investment, especially if you have kids in the house...

Yikes!

It definitely helps to put the safe in a location with space constraint and away from the garage.

I would think with a sawzall, you can get into most budget safes. Most people have $3k worth of guns, so they aren't going to buy a $4k safe for them.

all of my metal cutting blades for all of my power tools are now in my safe. The safe isn't in a place that is easy to work on and is far from the garage. I also is BOLTED down.
