Check your change....

I just got back from a trip to the UK to see my mother. One day before I left a convenience store clerk short changed me one pound. I got him to give me the correct change. I was born in the UK, now live in Canada and of course sound like an American(Boston accent ?). So it seems to me I get taken there on a regular basis both because of my appearance and accent. LOL the next day as I am buying my train ticket with two mins. to go before departure I hand the train clerk a 50 pound note(bill to you!) for a 37 pound trainfare. He gives me 3 pounds change. I said what about the 10 pounds? He hands it over. Lesson learned - dont be late for a train as you dont have enough time to report the cheating clerk to his boss. Being reasonably assertive should be instilled in you as a kid asap.
You dont have to be an a.........e to be assertive. Just stand your ground. How is it the older I get, the more amazed I become at people

In the US we call people who do this "banks."

Wow, surprising. Actually, I don't know. I rarely use cash any more. I guess if I did I might see this more often. Back when I did use cash, it wasn't common. Maybe now that cash is less prevalent, people pay less attention. Here, if you use cash, most places count the cash back to you.

I guess I'm old school since I use cash all the time for everyday transactions. And I absolutely do count the change. People will try to short change you. By the way, I've never gotten a short count from my bank or an error in a statement, never. Locally owned bank with great service unlike the rip off national banks.

For some reason it happens to me at airports all the time. They never get away with it. With the number of transactions that happen in those places I could see a cashier doubling their minimum wage income pretty easily.

I had a clerk do it to me at the Mobil Station in Roseamond out by Willow Springs. Bast Tard tried to short me a $20 out of a $100 Acted like it was a mistake, but saw it in his eyes.
