Garage

Scored this Broan hood a few years ago, new in box, for $75.00 out of a garage sale on Craigslist. Strange circumstance, a Russian family with a garage full of these hoods, all new in box. I guess they maybe were closing down their warehouse or something. Nice folks, glad to help them out in a time of need. PS, that's not our kitchen in the foto, that is a Broan catalog shot.

I think my whole garage is outfitted with finds, repurpose and Gsale items. Never bought a new vacuum cleaner in my life of 66 years and that includes my current shop vac.

Tools, well that's a story in itself. Lots of tools bought used. The primary stuff is new like sockets and combo wrenches. Even bought P-car specific tools here used.

Metal cabinets and shelving all used. Movable work bench is Boeing surplus. On and on.

All of house is antiques, even the stove (but not the fridge!)

Never do garage sales...did pick up a nice used McDermott cue & hard case in a pawn shop for $100. I was going to use it as a "trunk cue", a cue you keep in the trunk full time because it's cheap enough you don't care if it warps. Ahhhh, but it somehow ended up being Cindy's playing cue.

Tip to garage sale prowlers...look for old Palmer "window" cues...a clear plastic ring near the butt, with the words "original by palmer" on foil under the clear "window". Sometimes the former owner's name also added.

One like mine, a model M from the 2nd catalog is worth several thousand...but even the plane jane ones are worth $500 and up, depending on the catalog number,

I never see decent knives or cookware at thrift stores. Never any Henckel, Wusthof, Global, All Clad, etc. I've gotten some LeCrueset at garage sales. I'm basically full up with cooking stuff now anyway. No room for more pots.

No pic but at a estate auction sale about 10 years ago, mislabeled as assorted VW water cooled parts , bug roof rack $1, VW backrack $1, 8 EMPI sprintstar wheels (4 new) $5ea., big box of -66 and -57 blaupunkt, telefunkin and saphire radios $5, NOS turn lenses and headlight rings $1 lot and a whole poopload more.
Near the end they were running late, filling boxes and stating the bid at $1 and looking at me. If I didn't bid they would put something else in the box and look at me again.
Cost me in all just over $150, I still have stuff and I've sold a couple grand on thesamba.

I've had some other minor great deals, but this is my one and only major score.

hell 3/4 of the stuff i have is from the garbage or flea markets or wherever. i always wonder what people are thinking when they see me loading up the 911 at their curb. Little do they know i paid for it with their trash! a few weeks ago i found a practicly brand new dewalt drill and belt sander and bostitch palm nailer and a beat up roofing nailer. They were under other junk that someone already picked at. I come across good stuff like that all the time people will throw away anything! Doesnt hurt to grab boxes and throw it out later if its junk. Not too long ago i got a bunch of 14k gold mixed in with plastic kids jewelry. On a sour note though i just missed a set of 7 and 8" fuchs at the local pick a part another porsche guy i know got them and he doesnt need them and i do! Could have got them for 60$ damnit!

Interesting fun thread. I'm embarrased but have to spill my guilty pleasure and credit due this score. Found these flyrods at a house sale for virtually nothing which I sold for a tidy sum. That sack went to buy a vintage speed boat which I later sold and put most of those funds to acquire an 84 911. Whoever has those flyrods... I wish you good fortune and fishing.

Well if you managed to register with Valentine you should be fine.
I only ask because I had mine stolen a few years ago. I watched craigslist for the next few months, and nearly all of the V1s that showed up were hot (usually missing id tags and required parts like cords or mounting brackets)
