Another "is this a scam?"

I have a bus for sale right now, and a guy emails me that he wants to buy it, but he wants a picture of the title and a picture of the VIN on the car. I can understand that we wants to validate that the car is legit, but he didn't ask a single question about the condition of the vehicle. He also wanted my PP address so he could throw down a deposit.

What thinks ye?

Sounds like a legit request. I'm sure buses are being re-numbered by less honorable restorers.

I would completely ignore him. I would not respond, and I would block him.

I would respond to normal people, not weirdos.

You could temporarily cover everything but your name and vin on the title. He already has the vin right?

Nobody buys a vehicle sight unseen without asking real questions, especially an old one. It's a total scam.

Mabye water-mark fuzzy/partial pics so they can't be reused?
Include a front page of newspaper across half?

You've identified yourself. What confirmable info is he offering?
No vehicle questions means he's either loaded and desperate for that model, he's an idiot, you're giving away a lot of labor for a song, or he's fishing.

Paypal has a reputation of holding funds for weeks/months "until confirmation", and being biased against sellers in disputes.

Seems a little weird to me.

Or . . . .. seems like something you could . . . . maybe ask after about 100 other more normal questions.

Could be a scam, but you are not the one being scammed... He might try to use your pic to insinuate he has posession of this vehicle to another buyer.

That would be most likely.

See if you can find a second listing for your vehicle.

He'll likely be using your pics.

Have you talked to him on the phone? If in doubt, e-mail him your phone number and say "Call me to discuss." If you never hear from him then you have your answer.

+1. Google the direct links to the pictures you have posted or try using a reverse image searching engine such as TinEye (TinEye Reverse Image Search)

90% factor: always error to personal safety

If it sounds, smells, or reads like a scammer>it is! Maybe not scamming you directly or up front. Lee is correct email him a phone number, no answer no problem; but don't send him anything he could use to scam others or flip and or use to rip you off. We have all seen the photo's of one person rims used in someone Ebay or Pelican FS listing. The bus will sell to someone, and you will have given a person a window into you life.
