My 55' 190SL has a mechanical push button for the starter. There is satisfaction in using it and it's not used to turn the vehicle off. The current crop of push button on/off buttons really provide no "feedback". |

My E55 senses the fob in my pocket and the door unlocks when I grab the handle. It adjusts the seat, wheel and mirror positions to my fob. Remembers different settings for my wife's fob.
The car won't let me lock the keys in the car. If I put the keys on the roof of the car it won't let me start it. Smart car. |

Haven't had one since my '50 Ford...to me, start buttons seem like a step backwards.

I would love to have keyless start on my car at the moment. I'm in sales and get in/out of my car about 50 times a day. Being able to leave the key in my pocket the entire time would be awesome.

I'll take a simple key, thank you. I hate these new ones with all the bs on it. The key for my daughter's Avenger is the size of a tennis racquet.

My wife's car has it. I see the cool factor when I drive it. My "key" stays in my brief case. I hate that feature when I need something from her car when it is in the garage. I have to go get her purse and carry it to the garage to get in the back seat or move the car.
That one fob is way bigger than all of my keys on the key fob for my house, office and both cars combined. And my keys never ever need batteries. Now get off my lawn! |
We have on one the spyder. It's pretty cool on that car. There's a whole button/switch start procedure on that car. Key on, pull the fuel pump switch out, throw one ignition switch over, then the other (2 sets of 3 coil packs), listen for pressure, then hit the start button and let the FUN BEGIN!
So, yes, I like it on that car. But I think on a rather standard driver it would be a bit silly. angela |

I'm with Angela on the start up proceedure. I used to enjoy turning the key, waiting for the fuel pump to pressure up and pushing the button on my '56 Austin Healy 100-4. I think my TR3 had a pull knob on it. For some reason I just liked it. My wife has the push button start on her '12 Nissan. It's cool but has a high tech feel to it that's different from my old cars - not the same thing at all.

My '54 MG-TF had a pull starter and key. My '66 Jaguar had a key and push button. They both had a great feel to them, and were shut down with the turn of the key.

'06 Chevette, place fob in pocket, walk up to car hit the open membrane behind the handle, decend to the seat, clutch pedal to the floor, hit START, drive off!
I reaal like it. every time that I get in my pick up I miss the che'vette. |

Marv, you're right about the TR3. If you forgot the key, you could also hold a quarter to the back of the key switch to hotwire it.

A novelty for me, but I do like them because it does remind me of the old race-car stuff
