Engine start buttons are quite silly.

Have had one on my daily driver since 2/2007 (MazdaSpeed3) and I like it, although the "smart" keyfob is too large...

Why is turning a key acceptable but not pushing a button? Just asking? On what other machinery do we turn a key to start it? I push a button to start my lawnmower, weedwacker, snowblower, etc... and never thought it was "silly". Just takes getting used to....

Keys are a vestige of the past. I had an 07 Vette. When I would travel I would keep the fob in my bag. When I get back from my trip it was awesome to just walk up to the car...no need to unlock, no need to look for the ignition. Just walk up, open up and drive off....
Keys are awful. We actually changed our house locks to keyless....

Years ago several Jaguars that I had used a "starter button" and loved them.
The current crop of so called copy cats for me are terrible. Would never own a car that had one.

They are for race cars where you need to hit the starter now. I'm happy with a key. Touch the key to the lock on the Jag and the seats, mirrors, etc all adjust to the driver. How does a car with a button know who's getting in if it was unocked?

Engine start buttons on new cars are totally great, as long as you know how to shut the car off in an emergency.
My mom got a new Cadillac and it's the first thing I showed her.

Don't have to fumble for keys. How is that not good?

Nissan/Infiniti's system is just about flawless. Just keep a very small fob in your pocket/purse Approach the car, car sees fob, push a teeny button as you pull your handle and you are in the driver's door -- the rest of the doors remain locked unless you push the teeny button again. Get in, car moves the seat and settings to your preferences. Push the start button and you're off.
How could you NOT like the convenience? Are you guys all crotchety old timers?

As long as it is tied in to a system in which a key does NOT have to be placed in a slot. If you have to do that, scrap the button, it's an affectation.
But if you have a case as stated above, you leave the card/fob/"key" in your pocket, get in, push the button and go. It kind of takes me back to the days when we left the key in the ignition in the driveway. You were never looking for the key or trying to fit it into the ignition slot in the dash, just get in, turn the key and go. Funny how some things just come 'round again, isn't it? Best Les

My button start car must have the key in the immediate vicinity (driver's pocket, for instance). If the key isn't present, the car won't start and a buzzer rings to let you know you forgot the key...
