also ask if anyone saw anything who may have been in the area

an accident investigator can see if the her story is physically possible but costs $$

Are there any video cameras at the area that your over head shot was taken from, That could clarify the mater nicely. Check quickly.

A shot in the dark, put a craigslist add and one in the newspaper if it is free. I have seen these before. You may get a witness.

I was rear ended with my brother in law in his GTi, stopped in traffic when a Dodge Ram nailed us. The first question that the douchebag asked was "why were you stopped in the middle of the road?". Fortunately a cop was stopped in traffic a few cars ahead of us, that shut up said douchebag when he attempted to tell the responding officer that we "slammed on our brakes". Final bit of justice was that we drove home in the GTi while his Ram pissed coolant all over the road.

Yes, but they don't have to do fooking siht. I was once hit and bleeding from all sorts of cuts from the glass and lots of blood. cops (two of them) came and ask it I was alright and drove off.
