Why don't they use stadium, Baja type trucks for paris DAkar?

What about using those Baja buggies? Just wondering with nothing to do and can't sleep.

Damn, when I can't sleep my mind goes to things like Sharon Stone 20 years ago, but that is just me.

Back on topic please.........

Must be a rules thing. I think Robbie Gordon ran a Hummer 2 awhile back that was like a Baja racer.

Why are they so different, at least different looking? What are the advantages on the type of vehicles. How would those big trucks do in Baja I wonder.

I'm sure it has to do with the certain classes for each vehicle - size, weight, etc. I'd bet that if they allowed Baja type cars and trucks, they'd kick butt.

There is an open class for trophy trucks and buggies (like that H2), but most of the classes are production based.

Possibly in one of the postings in the random transportation pics thread?

If not, I am sure URY914 has the pic somewhere and will post it shortly

Well, Robbie Gordon is doing alright this year. Usually the Baja cars just don't have the drivers or else they just break/crash.

They used to have those "Schlesser Buggies" that were more along the lines of the 959: smaller, lighter. Most of the "cars" are very sophisticated and are not like the trophy trucks: all brute force and solid axles. The 4WD helps in the sand dunes as well.

The big trucks are unique to Dakar. They started as the parts trucks chasing the cars entered in the race. They were not allowed to chase so they had to enter the race to do so. Then the mechanics started racing...
