Ten Day Tech Scout-The Lone Ranger

I really love my job, but starting on Sunday, I'll be doing a ten day straight Tech Scout all over Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. We'll see some spectacular scenery. But typically on this scouts, we get in the van before sunrise, drive for hours, check out locations that are far, far from anything, when the sun sets, we drive for hours to the next hotel and roll in around 9PM and get on the bus the next day before sunrise. Rinse, repeat for ten days. Gonna load up the iPad with movies and books. Most of these areas have no cell/data service.

How about a silly suggestion? Use an airplane for those out of the way places?

Sure could see more in a lot less time that way... or use the places where the original Lone Ranger was filmed!

If you get near Phoenix let us know!

They thought of a charter but many area are so remote we'd drive hours anyway. Sign is coming down in two hours when my brother gets home with his pickup. I'll post pics on that thread of the deed.

25 to 30 people on a Tech Scout too many, besides everyone is on a weekly pay rate, except me and a few others who are salaried, so they don't care if we spend hours and hours in vans.

Choppers are absurdly expensive to operate. Vans are CHEAP to operate.

Because they spend it wisely.

I've worked for outfits that spent like drunken sailors.

It's a fun ride while it lasts.

But one thing for sure, last it does not.

I wish I could but I'm bringing my iPad only and can't upload pics. BTW, the original TV series shot mostly in the Santa Clarita Valley where I live, notably at the Golden Oak Ranch which is about an 880 acre ranch that Walt Disney bought 50 or 60 years ago. Its a few miles from my house. To check it out go to goldenoakranch.com We've done some very cool residential and business street facades there over the last 18 months. They are totally fire resistant and made of steel, concrete board and plaster. This was in response to the Universal Studios fire in their backlot a few years ago. We are also planning 18 soundstages, a Production building (offices) a commissary, and construction mill. Who else do you know who is investing $650 Million in Los Angeles?

Well, as long as they bring more production back to L.A. Seems like any mid to big budget feature is going to Atlanta, Wilmington, New Orleans or Baton Rouge.

Enjoy yourself. Kris (the prop man) and Cheryl (the decorator) are top notch people. If you see them, tell them Craig said "hi".

Good news, please bring more film work to Arizona. There are a bunch of people here who would love to see a major studio relocate to Phoenix (I hear it's been on again/off again - in the works for a while).

I worked with both of them on the Pirates movies, they are excellent. Where Cheryl comes up with that set dressing amazes me.

1407 hours? Is the internet connection two cans and a piece of string?

I will take some pics at Tahoe in a few weeks for you Capt Paul, there may even be snow.

Joking a little bit, but yeah that is what it said after everyone came back from dinner and tried to log on to the motels tiny broadband. I'll let it run overnight. A Navajo motel, and no adult beverages for miles, go figure.
