Firepower!
A 22 short should do it . . . . . Think not? Read on . . . . . . . . .
On Bud's Gun Shop Forums the question came up: What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself? The best answer: My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in 22 short. Over all the years I've been hiking I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course. we all know too the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the "Buddy System." For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this it means you NEVER hike alone. You bring a friend or companion, even an in-law. That way, if something happens, there is someone to go get help. . . . . . . I remember one time hiking with my son-in-law in northern Alberta. Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man, was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs. Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I'd sure not be here today. Just one shot to my son-in law's knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace.

Good one. Reminds me of a t-shirt I bought in Yellowstone. It reads Go ahead and run.....Bears like fast food!

So.... What would you have to carry to take down a BIG Grizzly?
A sawn off double barrelled 12 gauge with solid rounds?

Some special effects guys wear a T-shirt that has printed on the back "If you see me running, try to keep up".

I think that originated with the guys who defused the IED's in Iraq. Seriously good advice for them.

Nah, just walk over to the bear and say, "Excuse me but you're really annoying me."
The bear will walk away. Well, that's only way you're gonna get a shot at the shoulder blade. |

A takeoff on the old "I don't have to outrun the lion, I just have to outrun you"
and didn't Shane the deputy shoot that guy in the leg so he could escape the zombies when they went to get the medical supplies in one episode ??

Thanks, Paul. That was great.
Sure you can. A central nervous system hit with just about anything will drop them (or anything else) like a sack of potatoes. Brain 'em or sever the spine and it's game over. Three wheeled bears run just fine. I've seen them do it. I've shattered the entire shoulder joint on a couple of occasions (.30-'06 with a 200 grain Partition at 2,600 fps once, and .375 H&H with a 300 grain Partition at 2,500 fps once), and they had no trouble running off. Both died, of course, but it took them several minutes. They had plenty of time (and speed) left to really ruin our day, if they were so inclined. Hell, they can crawl faster than we can run.

When I first went back to meet my girlfriend's (now wife) parents, her dad invited me to go dove hunting with him. At the time I told my wife, "I guess we'll find out if he really likes me".

Dicks was a warning shot. If he wanted him down, he would have been down!
