Buying a computer: new or refurbished?

Looking at an Acer all-in-one. New w/ 6GB RAM is $550, refurbished with 4 GB RAM is $390. Advice?

I have no issue with most refurbed stuff. Warranty is the same as new when purchased from the manufacturer.

A lot of times a refurb is simply an open box/return that has been inspected and repackaged.

Yep, I've purchased from the Dell outlet, same warranty on open box stuff but a much better price.

once you use a new fast machine; the old one will feel glacially slow (I am using the old XP machine right now and it is annoying)

so get a fast refurb with the new "stuff"

Thanks guys. Refurb it is. The computer I'm using right now is, truly, glacially slow. So anything will feel faster

I'm looking at this: Canada Computers | Desktop PCs | Acer Aspire AZ1620-EW30P (Refurbished) 20" All-In-One, Intel PENTIUM G620 2.6GHz, 4GB DDR3 Memory, 1TB HDD, DVDRW, GLAN, Speakers, Keyboard & Mouse, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit w/ 1-year Warranty and will likely downgrade Windows 7 to XP. Not only do I hate Windows 7, a lot of my software is likely not compatible.

You can get a good brand name brand new one at Staples if you watch for when the new ones come out.
