Played in courts, yes, but no fences to keep the ball from being spiked a long way. I know, I played beach volleyball and gym volley ball for 15 years. If you missed the spike, it was usually a good trot to where the ball stopped.
All I was teasing about is that footballs and frisbees are not the only two airborne objects at the beach. And a 1000 dollars? Be serious. |

Actually I complained to the Supervisor and he actually replied:
Thank you for your e-mail to my office. Recent media reports on the County's Beach ordinance were misleading. The Board of Supervisors actually lifted a 42-year-old ban on football and Frisbee throwing and replaced it with restrictions on crowded beach days when wayward balls or Frisbees could hit other people. Please see the attached release from the Department of Beaches and Harbors with more information. If you have further questions, please call my Deputy, Tony Bell or Edel Vizcarra at 213-974-5555. Sincerely, MICHAEL D. ANTONOVICH Supervisor, Fifth District OVERVIEW: The new ordinance lifts a decades-old, all-out ban on playing football, Frisbee and other ball on the beach. Its intention was not to preclude football or Frisbee tossing. Rather, its purpose is to allow ball playing, while providing reasonable safety measures that lifeguards may impose on a crowded beach day, when wayward footballs or Frisbees could cause injuries to bystanders. The ordinance allows football play, Frisbee and other ball play during the off-peak beach season. In the summer months, when millions of visitors come to L.A. County beaches, lifeguards have the authority to stop a game if it threatens safety in crowded areas of the beach. If necessary, a citation may be issued by law enforcement or Department Code Enforcement Officers to individuals who ignore the lifeguards’ directives on ball playing. Even during the peak season, the rule does allow for games in specially designated parts of the beach. SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE: The newly revised Beach Ordinance does not ban footballs, soccer balls, or Frisbees on L.A. County beaches. Instead, the Ordinance provides a set of guidelines for safe ball playing at the beach. Beachgoers may throw, kick, or roll any ball or light object on L.A. County beaches during the off- peak season between Labor Day and Memorial Day as long as persons or property are not endangered, and may do so year-round in established and/or designated areas or if they receive permission from the Department of Beaches and Harbors or a lifeguard. VIOLATION: If the ball-playing code section is violated, the violation is an infraction punishable by a fine in accordance with California Government Code section 25132 as follows: (b) “Every violation determined to be an infraction is punishable by (1) a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100) for a first violation; (2) a fine not exceeding two hundred dollars ($200) for a second violation of the same ordinance within one year; (3) a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500) for each additional violation of the same ordinance within one year.” |

Well, to put reason to all of this isn't certainly not in the spirit of kalifornia bashing.
You get a "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!" |

I actually have to give some credit to both Antonovich and Yaroslavsky. I emailed my objection to the the ordinances and both responded with clarification. Evidently frisbee has been illegal on the beach. As for the 18" holes, I highly doubt that lifeguards will be out with a measuring stick. While I object to the nanny state, sadly some laws are necessary because some people think it is their gawd-given right to act like an arse at the beach.

LA and Southern California are rather crowded. We have a rather high population density. I dont like that part too much. But I do like all the "Kalifornia Bashers" and laws like these. It helps keep the population under control. Some people will move away. And when word of laws like this one gets out, fewer people will move here. Leaves more room for.... ME

I don't like the law, but when you have little kids, you will want the idiots to stay away and not hurt your little ones. Due to the large crowds on the sand, this type of regulation maybe necessary. When my kids were really little, like 2 or 3, they play at the swing set and the little slides at the local park a lot. One time, these dumb kids in their early 20 were throwing a football in the kids play area. I thought they will pass and play at the grass. NOOOO. more came and have taken over the whole place. I would have kill one of them if they hit my little boy with the f'ing football. I ask them to leave, but they refuse and starting shooting their mouth at me. this is the reason why we need these laws. I don'tlike them but we sometime don't have a choice
