To be frank, PARF is an excellent source for finding many differing opinions. I enjoy the scrum. I like a challenge, always have...the day I can't look at the other team(s) playbook and find a different perspective, whether I agree or not, shoot me.

As in life, there is a bit of a bell curve in PARF but to feign distaste is silly.

There are some really bright posters, excellent writers and the rainbow that includes shades of grey and black and white. Revel in it.

I learn a lot, get more than I put in, enjoy the place.

Take a trip back in the archives ten years ago....
1). Pelicans only posted tech and each one was meaningful, specific, and well thought out. Nobody wasted their time. The responses were knowledgeable, and people were helpful and polite.

2). Then came the tangent threads, and PPOT was created.

3). Then came the firestorm threads with personal comments(let us call them "differences"), and PPOTPAR was created.

4). Now, the board is like Twitter with every minute thought-by-the-minute added.
I am fully guilty of this as well.

"Never Been To Spain" was written by Hoyt Axton, as was "Joy To The World", both big hits for Three Dog Night. Hoyt's Mom wrote "Heartbreak Hotel", a hit for Elvis Presely. All true, unless someone wants to disagree with me and "cut and paste" some article to prove otherwise. The gauntlet has been thrown down, bring it on...

I agree (as helicopter people we have to you know). I've learned a lot from PARF. I usually avoid the really controversial subjects and the Obama bashing. You also learn who to avoid getting into an argument with so I don't think it's that bad a place. I post everywhere else but not as much on the technical because there are some real knowledgeable people on there and I usually can't top their solutions to some of the problems posted.

"Mama Told Me Not To Come" was another big hit for Three Dog Night , written by Randy Newman.

These days, Three Dog Night would be lucky to be playing at the Holiday Inn in Branson, MO. but Randy Newman continues to enjoy a great career.

THESE ARE THE FACTS!!!

I posted mostly on the tech board for years..answering the easy questions that the pros were too busy for...until all the guys that I had taught to do stuff started fielding the questions themselves...and it got boring. I flipped over to OT one day and came across an argument where a bright liberal was handing a couple of conservatives an arsewhipping because, although he had the weaker position, he was more skilled in debate. I took it as a challenge to join in...and find it quite an intellectual exercise. I argue with some world class intellectuals for a living and have actually sharpened my skills here. I work long hours and have a long commute...so it is unfortunately, pretty much my only recreation.

I am able to pick and chose which argument to involve myself in...just like here in OT and on the tech threads. I do find it odd that people seem to imply that they have no choice of threads and have to read them if posted...and that we must somehow isolate any disagreement or debate (do you guys that own 911 also read all the 928 and BMW threads?). I also find it strange that some of those same folks will actually attack guys on tech or "for sale" threads or here in OT because of something they saw in PARF. Give me a break, what are we, a bunch of children? Surely you can seperate a political discussion from a technical one. After all, we are all here because of our love for Porsches, aren't we?
