Software install problem, any suggestions?

I'm trying to install and older version of Dreamweaver on my laptop.
Laptop specs:
Windows XP service pack 3
3500+ AMD processor 1.58ghz
74.0g HD w/52.1g free
1.87g ram
I've already installed this program on my desk top computer having almost identical specs.
Windows XP service pack 3
3400+ AMD processor 1.99ghz
87.5g HD w/54.0 free
1.43g ram

When I run the Installer from the disc I get this for about 20 minutes

It very slowly progresses and then I get this

I've emptied my temp file, defragged my disk and done a disk clean in an attempt to clean things up and free some space but I still get the error message.
Any suggestions or ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

How much free space do you have?

Go to "My Computer", right click on the drive, and then click "properties". It should tell you how much free space you have.

Where does it think your Temp space is? Or rather, does it think your Temp space is somewhere other than it actually is?

Do you have an external drive hooked up to your laptop?

Have you tried copying the disc to your hard drive and running from there?

Did you turn off your virus scanner?

Which version of CS is it?

You have admin privledges? If it is a really old version try Win98 compatibility mode. SP2 and SP3 created some issues that weren't there in XP and XP SP1.

Otherwise, is the CD scratched or marked up?

Well here are my thoughts: The software is made by those wonderful folks at Adobe and it appears the want you to get a new version of the software, I.E. the message about getting another copy of the installer. Have you checked their website to see what they say? I took a look and it appears this is a very common problem with this software and unfortunately it also appears that there seems to be no fix??!! Here are what I saw several folks tried:

- use regedit and make sure to remove any and all references to the software.
- disable ALL anti-virus and anti-spyware software then restart, make sure no residual DLLs or processes are running.
- Download a copy of ISO Buster (I have used it for years) and pull all the files off the CD-ROM and then run the setup program without the installer. This seemed to work for several people.
- Get rid of all "temp" files and junk by typing %temp% in the Run box and when the files and directories come up, delete everything.
- Make sure you are an administrator or login as administrator.
