Reverb pedals...WTF
Why are these things so damned expensive?
All I need is an acceptable "hall" reverb (I hate spring except for surf). Ever since I stopped using gizmo-laden combos and invested in a '59 Bassman, I've been much happier with my tone but I miss the reverb. Why can I buy a Roland Micro Cube with a decent, bare-bones hall reverb in it for $99 (not to mention a decent acoustic simulator, 4+ amp models, etc. etc.), but I have to spend $150 for a Roland reverb pedal??!

The micro-cube is all digitized, all it takes is a circuit board. Mine cost me $65 new, but I said what the heck!
The roland (Boss) effects pedals are typically quite a bit more sophisticatred than that. Let me know which roland pedal you are interested in and I'll see what I can do, I know someone "inside". Last edited by sammyg2; 03-07-2012 at 09:07 AM.. |

I appreciate the offer...I need to listen to a bunch of pedals before I make up my mind.
I'm just baffled at the fact that pretty much EVERY reverb pedal out there (not just BOSS) is over $120 (except the cheap crap, which still costs more than a mid-grade distortion pedal). I feel like I have to DIY build my own pedal and call it the "Hall Effect Generator"--one knob and one foot switch and that's it. ![]()

one knob- Hermida Audio Reverb, US made. From Chinese bits. Also available as a GGG kit. Pretty cheap IIRC.
Like you, I like a touch of reverb, i run this in the amp FX loop and just treat it like an onbord tank reverb. Since I started using an amp without springs a few years back, Ive been through about 6 digi reverbs, and settled on this. Its got one knob, it got a "natural" reverb and its proper true bypass, if that matters to you. nice unit.

I just got the TC Electonics Hall of Fame reverb pedal last week. I really like it. I think I paid $139 for it brand new. All I needed was a spring reverb but after looking into the HOF, for the price its alot of fun and sounds really very good...and Im used to Fender Twin and Deluxe Reverb amps for 20 years now....
Being able to beam their custom tone prints to the pedal by aiming my iphone at my pickups is one of the coolest things i have ever seen in my life.

I only sing in the bathroom. I play the guitar in the kitchen--I can really cook when I get going.
