Hmm, my class had nothing about safe handling, and we both know that the accuracy test is a joke. You'd have to be blind or have Parkinson's or both to NOT qualify.

To buy a gun here in TX takes about 30-45 mins for paperwork and a phone call for the background check. If you have a valid CHL then it takes as long as it takes you to pay.
20-35 of that is picking out the firearm! And if you have a CHL, there is no phone-call.

They didn't teach, you had to demonstrate safe handling. But you also had to hit a target at 15-25 feet. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have a permit.

No wait in PA. If you pass the quizz and get a clean phone call it's cash and carry.

Wow, something Georgia is actually good at. To buy a gun, less than 10 minutes. Fill out paperwork, fax it off, wait 5 minutes for a reply. To get a CCW, takes an hour. Walk into the courthouse, fill out paperwork, wait 30 minutes to get fingerprinted, walk out. CCW permit comes in the mail in less than 5 days. No kind of course, or training or anything like that at all. Paperwork, prints and gone.

IIRC, it was 10 days here in DC. 3 months is nuts.

In NYC it's not so much the wait or the $$.

It's the way a person is made to feel like a criminal, like there must be something in your past that we (they) can find to deny you a permit.

But, a criminal can always pick up a gun without a background check at his local housing project, cash and carry. Go figure.

When DC started allowing handgun permits, the people working in the office that handled gun permits were super nice and took the time to explain the whole registration process to applicants. Everything went smoothly each time I went through this process.

Where I live the County Sheriff actually encourages people to get a CCW license. He knows people that get them are law abiding and have taken a firearms safety class.

In the people's republik of kalifornia, just applying for a pistol permit is grounds for arrest and prosecution.

My concealed pistol license took 3 months to arrive... typical for Wayne County, MI. My wife's also took 3 months and that was three years after I got mine...
