It is (at least)100mpg technology....but currently unvailable to the American general public.
Money has been spent elsewhere.

Things like fruity Tang, and global internet data transfer at sub-$.01/GB actual cost, is currently available...
Nicolai Tesla thought it should be free.

The 918 will be like the 959 - an R&D platform that a few people can buy. And, like the 959 and Chevy Volt, it will be a historic platform for future vehicle development.

right now, they need the V-8 to get that 770 hp
