Pleased to meet you

I did not know where to post so I did it here.

I am the new bird at the Pelicans nest.....call me the Rookie!
I don't own a Porsche yet, but I am working on it.

I got about 10K saved up and should have about 5K more by year's end. That would make a nice Christmas Present for sure.....

I will get into the Car I am looking for when I have the Moola. In the meantime I have not stopped reading this Forum......my first thread was Magnus...Good Lord!

I used to own a 66 Fastback (Ford) back in the day so I am not strange to wrenching. Nowadays I wrench on 2 stroke motors (Superjets)

I seriously can't wait to get my hands on one of these fine pieces of Engineering....I think I got the bug! BIG TIME!

Benny,
Welcome aboard! You can learn a lot here. It's great that you're researching BEFORE you buy the car not AFTER, Like I did!

Thanks fellas.

Yep...saving the money, I was in debt once and I promised NEVER to let that happen again unless necessary. I was in debt because I wanted to have all the great toys a man should have....ha ha!

Yes, Norcal.

Welcome aboard Benny!! You are so going to be able to do well in tracking down a good car for yourself. I also did as Azasadny mentioned, got the car then found pelican and started to learn about all the info i should have know before buying. You are already ahead of the game.

Cheers Richard

I have to be Honest....I got the fever.....I got it so bad, I wanted my Porsche and I wanted it NOW !!!!

I almost pull the trigger on this one:
1975 Porsche 911 s Widebody

In my "desperation" I tried to get the rest of the money as a loan, THEN I came down to my senses and realized I was doing the wrong thing. I literally walked out of the Bank.

I know one thing for sure so far......I want a 1975 or older Porsche.
I do not want to submit to the Smog Laws of "Kalifornia". I want the freedom to "play" with the engine and enjoy the ride.

I read those older engines are not the Best.....Swap! ha ha!

I guess by now it should be clear I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination. I like my rides to be fast, rough and furious.

Want accessories?....get a Swiss knife
Power windows?....I got the Power!
A/C?....roll'em down....too hot? go FASTER!

See, now you'll get me asking all kind of questions.

So, if 74 to 77 had the infamous 2.7 engines....swapping for a 3.0 would make sense....right? This is strictly mechanically speaking......don't want to get into matching numbers and resale value.

Benny
73's & earlier a little more collectable and reliable, post 77's have the galvanized bodies and a little more reliable than the mid years, mid years can be made reliable but you may still have to fight the rust issues.

Early cars sure are cute, SCs sure are reliable, 3.2s - well, they are just really good cars.

Early cars are great fun. I hope you find one that'll put/keep a smile on your face, Benny.

Welcome on board Benny! We'll help you spend your hard earned money!!!! ;-)

Do some research on the board, go to the 911 Technical section also there is a FAQ in the Porsche section that discusses the different models and things to look out for. The FAQ is fairly generic.

Do not be overly concerned with the 2.7 or 2.4. They can be sorted out or might already be sorted out. Stay away from ANYTHING motor meister, they have red painted fans and their work is generally considered highly questionable on this and other boards though some few people claim they do good stuff.

Don't be scared to ask questions! There is ALWAYS someone here willing to help.

Learn about PPIs and how they can help you BEFORE you buy!

There is the "joke" that every 911 is a $20,000 car. By the time you find your gem you will have kicked ALOT of tires, seen some really horrible prospects, found one you really wanted but could not afford, and been rather discouraged.

Of course, you could just luck into one! My Wife bought the first one for me! She messed up in reverse, car was fairly nice (though needed an engine rebuild) and just happened to be the exact body style I had always wanted. Still have it some 15 years on!
