Help with Ariens 722 snowblower....

Well a significant dump of snow. My neighbors are away skiing and I am allowed to use their snowblower to clear their snow and ours. Well I am done theirs but the snowblower broke down. It is 50/50 with this Ariens 722 and this time the connection between the motor and the paddle(that which throws the snow) is inactive. The paddle freewheels and does not throw anything. The motor runs fine.
Any ideas? Last time the pull chord came out and would not reel back. Even this morning with a few degrees of frost, the electric start would not engage.
Now it reaffirms why I dont have a snowblower, they are more trouble than they are worth. The last time with the pull chord pulled out , it was covered by warranty. Now the warranty has expired. My wife suggests that twigs could have got in the paddle and caused it break. Perhaps an Ariens 722 owner could shed light on this or anybody that knows anything about snowblowers. There are no twigs caughts in the thrower/paddle.

Off topic:

One of my friends was stationed in Montana for one winter. After that when he was trying to decide where to live he would go into local big box hardware stores and ask if they had a snow blower. If they said yes he went further south. When they answered "A What" he decided to move there. He lives in South Carolina now.

I can't help you with a snow blower, sorry.

Probably broke a belt or it jumped off a pulley.

Try this website: Ariens Order Owners Manuals

enter the model/serial number and you should be able to get a pdf of the parts and/or service manual.

edit: I should probably point you to this page first so you can find the model/serial number:

+2 on shear pin(looks like bolt on the impeller shaft.
Do not replace with a bolt. They are designed to break easily. If not, the gears and transission take the hit and are a bit more expensive.
Buy several, from the mftr.

+3 on sheer pin...my dad keeps a few in a pouch strapped to the handle somewhere. that way he doesnt have to go back into the garage and rumage around to find where he hid them.

Plus 14-30.........If you can't find the proper one, use a soft bolt.......Probably got a rock or pine cone thru the impeller...

There is no shear pin on the 722 - it's a rubber-paddle type single stage. There's a drive belt under the cover on the left side of the machine (as you look at it from the operating position).

I thought I would post the results of what was the cause of the snowblower not to blow. My neighbor fixed it and it is John here that got it right. The drive belt had slipped off. The neigbour said the drive belt was worn and needed to be replaced. After a day of skiing and a 4 hour drive, he is snowblowing my driveway. I just love a good neighbour. We help each other. Thanks everybody.
