Another entitlement thread: Parking in the red zone
"Fire zone, no parking" signs. Curb painted bright red. Blocking the cross walk in the process.
Some entitled A$$ thinks the rule don't apply to him as he waits for his tart of a wife to run in and grab a few groceries. Of course he's driving the ubiquitous silver Prius with USC license plate frame, so it's ok, right? I ask the guy why he thinks it's ok to be parking in the red zone, blocking the cross walk. I am told to F off as if I am the one in the wrong. Go figure.

Park anywhere except in a handicapped spot, the fine is cheaper to just park in the middle of the street.

Parking or waiting? Some places don't have passenger or loading zones. If he was there with the motor running and ready to move at any point, I don't see the wrong you do.
But, I wasn't there, so I don't know just how much access he was blocking. Around here (in the city) it wouldn't be much in most places. |

Those freakin' Trojans.
It's one thing to "park" in a red zone so a passenger can return a video in the drop off slot at Blockbuster. It's another thing to sit and wait (aka "standing") while someone goes shopping. We have people who do that all the time across the street from my office, which is located at a street corner; they park in a no parking zone to get something from the Coffee Bean/Tea Leaf. Sure, it looks like an empty row of parking spaces. But when those are filled with cars, it turns our little two-lane street into a one-lane street, thereby holding up traffic. People who want to go straight or turn right at the intersection 100 feet up the road can't do so until the long line of cars stuck in the left-turn lane clear out. I turn left from that street when I go home, so I have no dog in the fight. But I'd sure be irritated if I wanted to turn right and couldn't do so because some inconsiderate jerk decided his desire for a cup of coffee entitled him to inconvenience others.

I live in a suburb that is 75% 65-and-older. We are starting to see this kind of behavior from young people... parking in red zones, blocking fire hydrants, parking in handicapped spots, and then walking away... simply because they are too lazy to walk 30 seconds and park in a legal spot.
They are completely dismissive of the senior citizens who try to explain to them that those spots are needed by other people. Just out of curiosity, I wonder exactly how much of "bump" on their front bumper is required to activate their air bags... _ |

A fireman friend of mine loved to write tickets to folks sitting in a fire lane. He said it they were in that spot for more than 60 seconds he gave them a ticket. I never knew a fireman could write tickets.

Blocking the crosswalk is not cool. Waiting in a red zone or no parking area is fine.

Typical Dipso, liberal. Red zones are usually because there is limited turning access, so what if you hold up traffic. After all, why should you be inconvenienced, when you can inconvenience a whole lot of people.

Can you please explain "why" it's ok to do something which is clearly marked not to do and may pose a safety hazard? The red zones are there for a reason. Why are you the exception to the rule?

Like Zeke said. If he sit there waiting on the curb (not blocking walk way), he doesn't bother me as much as those who stop in the middle of the drive way to drop off a bunch of people, while there is/are cars waiting behind them. I begin to see more and more fat moms doing that nowadays.

I'll tell you how stupid people are. Our laws say you can't park any closer to a corner than 10 feet if there is no sidewalk. If there's a walk and a park strip of grass, you have to be behind the line of the walk. So, the city paints red lines from the stop parking point up until the curb starts to curve. They don't paint the actual curved part.
So where do you find people parking nowadays? At the apex of the curved sidewalk in between the red lines. IOW, caddy corner in the intersection. It's unmarked, so they park there. I had someone block me in San Francisco many years ago. SF has legendary parking problems. I rammed his car all the way out into the intersection and drove off. Good thing his brake was set well. |

I also see no problem with waiting in a no parking. I didn't say parking. I said waiting. There is a big difference. If you leave the motor running and are aware that you are in the red and may have to move. No problem. Yep! |

Just double park. It's what most do around here. Side street, main street. If you are lucky, two cars will double park next to each other, one each way, making for 4 parked cars and a blocked road.

How about double parking, in a crosswalk, in the snow, uphill, on a slippery slope... both directions. |

I drive a big red fire truck from time to time. If called to a fire and there is a car in the red zone guess where the car goes- anywhere I push it.
Told a guy at Walmart who was walking away from his car parked in a posted, painted, and signed handicap space without a permit that the fine was 500.00 and the police had been called. He walked into Walmart and turned around and moved his car. I have some friends in wheelchairs and feel like they have it hard enough as it is.

That irritates me to no end. People will double park in the middle of the road (illegal), instead of pulling into an illegal parking spot (whether it be in front of a driveway, fire hydrant, no parking zone, etc) to drop off/pick up someone. How stupid is that? If you're going to do something illegal, why not do it so you're not holding up traffic? Pull into that "spot" that's not yours, do your deed, and at least get the heck out of the way of the flow of traffic. I don't know if it's selfishness or obliviousness, but both should disqualify you from holding a driver's license, IMO.
