My kid is pretty tough.

She may be a cute 8 y/o girl but don't let the pink sandals fool you. This kid is tough. On Sunday she was asked to go fishing with my neighbor's kids on a nearby farm. They were having a great time, horseback riding, fishing and then the play equipment loved by orthopedists around the world. The trampoline.

While jumping on the trampoline another kid landed on her fracturing the radius near the wrist. In fracture terms it wasn't the worst kind, a compound, but rather a buckle fracture. It will require a soft cast for 4 to 6 weeks.

My neighbor/ good friend was horrified that it happened on his watch and I'm sure he felt terribly. We met them at the hospital for Xrays and treatment. I was so proud of her. David, (the neighbor) said that she never cried or complained and was cracking jokes on the hour ride back to Houston. She was much more interested in relating the story of the big fish she caught rather that focusing on the fracture. Thats my girl.

+2 on a quick and easy heal. I guess you need to show her the coat hanger for scratching.

Yes your girl has guts alright. Good on her. I wonder where she got it from? I just love it when people(children!) dont complain when they have lots of reason to.

10 out of 10 for insensitivity but standup comic potential. You get whacked with dead fish for that one.

My daughter back when she was 8 years old. Trying to do a front flip off the monkey bars during recess at school. Fractured BOTH ulnas at the same time!

Thanks for the good thoughts everyone. The fish was large enough to filet and the neighbor has it in his freezer. Neighbor's son is a Marine in Afghanistan currently and they spent many days in the ER during his formative years. He said that Sav. (my daughter) asked him if when they finished with xrays would it be too late to go back to the farm. I am a proud papa.

This was a couple weeks ago, it was her first fish to ever catch. You can see by the size why she was so excited to catch a keeper.

Trampolines are an emergency room's best friend.

We had a similar thing last summer.
Darn kids were on the tramp for about 20 minutes before I was carrying my girl (7 years) back home with the worst ankle sprain I've seen.
Worst part - neighbors (hosts) were absolutely CLUELESS. I gave them a courtesy call when we returned from the ER, because I figured that they'd be concerned (if nothing more - because of their homeowner's policy). Their response: "Oh, I guess we hadnt seen you around for a while...." Idiots.

Very cool. I've found that kids seem to freak out about the little stuff but keep cool when it's a big deal. Sounds like daddy should take her out to dinner to help the recovery.

We had a trampoline as a kid, I can't count the number of sprains, chipped teeth, and bruises that resulted. Fun, but an insurance company's worst nightmare.

They'll be banned. You'll only be able to jump under cover of darkness.
