Gluing glass
Have a "bowl" that snapped off its base.
Looks like it was originally glued together. So what to use to reattach? Thx Scott |

Superglue hates me.
The only thing I can manage to get stuck together with it is my fingers. I'll give it a shot. Thx |

Here is the object in question. The bowl weighs a good 5-6 pounds and the contact patches are both glass and about 3/4 inch.

Actually, Super Glue Gel. Get the old glue off with high heat. Won't hurt to scuff the surfaces with a Dremel.

Also, with any adhesive, it needs a clean surface.

Scuffing is usually just a way to get to a clean surface.

careful with heat too, you can melt the glass a bit and the pieces won't fit together anymore

Beside Stuper Glue, I say epoxy. I have had great luck with it.

See if acetone will take off the old glue.
I don't know how acetone works on Superglue (if that is what is there now), but isn't there something called Superglue Remover? Might be worth a shot.

There is also a glue specifically for glass.

I've had good luck with the specialty Loctite epoxies. They probably have a formula for for glass.

Superglue is most effective on porous surfaces. You'd be better off with an epoxy... or finding a glassmaker to fix

Consider the loading. It really doesn't need much (the weight of the bowl compresses on the stand). And adhesives do hold together much more important, higher loaded, things than that. The problem is, most people don't know how to optimally 'glue' stuff. ...Stuff fails - they blame the 'glue.'
